During his interview on the Cracks Podcast with Oso Trava, incoming Cadillac F1 driver Sergio Pérez talked about his motivations and aspirations coming back to Formula 1 for what he said would be his “last stint” as a driver.
Pérez has lofty goals for his Cadillac era. “Without a doubt this is my last stint. I would love to—I would truly love to retire with Cadillac, leaving them as a powerful team in Formula 1, one of the greatest teams.”
“We possess all the essential ingredients”
Having been at Red Bull, who won three constructors’ titles in his four seasons, Pérez knows very well what a championship-caliber team looks like, and believes Cadillac will be among the greatest F1 teams in due time.
“It’s a big project. These are very large organizations, and it takes a significant amount of time for everyone to get properly settled and in their respective places.
“It will certainly take some time, but I believe we possess all the essential ingredients for this particular team to truly become one of the absolute greatest in Formula 1 over the course of the next few years.”
Pérez bringing his family along for the journey
When asked what he wanted to accomplish personally, Pérez said he wants to “enjoy it. Return, enjoy it a lot with my family, with my children. They’ve been a very important part of me—of me coming back.
“I think it was both of them, but Checo especially, my oldest son, it really hurt how this departure from Red Bull happened, you know. So he really wanted to return.“
“So that was one of the main reasons, to go back and really enjoy time with them, for them to see me race. That’s one of my dreams, and to make Cadillac one of the most important teams, that’s my goal, and I think if I achieve that I’ll leave Formula 1 very happy.”
