Pirelli Motorsport announced the departure of Mario Isola from the company, with Dario Marrafuschi named as his F1 replacement.
Isola joined Pirelli in 1996 and has been heading the Italian tyre manufacturer’s programme in F1 for nearly the last 10 years. In this period, he has been a key figure in the paddock. Ahead of 2026 start, he he has decided to leave, not just the Formula 1 role, but also the company for a new professional venture.
Isola will leave the company on July 1 of 2026, while his replacement Marrafuschi will take his role from March 1 under the same title of Head of Pirelli’s Motorsport Business Unit. He will report to Giovanni Tonchetti Provera, who is Executive Vice President of Sustainability, New Mobility & Motorsport.

Until July 1, Isola will aide in a smooth transfer and help in effective transition. It is rumoured that Isola will join Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI). His replacement Marrafuschi joined Pirelli in 2008 and is involved in F1’s research and development work alongside development of Pirelli’s road product.
“Pirelli announces that, effective March 1st, Dario Marrafuschi will become Head of Pirelli’s Motorsport Business Unit replacing Mario Isola who will provide support until July 1st to ensure a smooth and effective transition,” said Pirelli in a statement, announcing the change ahead of the 2026 F1 season.

“Isola will then leave the company to pursue new professional challenges. Marrafuschi, who joined the company in 2008, has extensive experience in Formula 1 in the Research and Development area and in recent years has headed the development of Pirelli’s road products.
“Like Isola, Marrafuschi will report to Giovanni Tronchetti Provera, Executive Vice President of Sustainability, New Mobility & Motorsport. The Company wishes to thank Mario Isola for the dedication and great passion with which he has contributed to the growth of the Motorsport business unit over the years.”
