Swiss racing veteran Sébastien Buemi has secured his future with Envision Racing after penning a new multi-year contract extension that will keep him with the Formula E team through the upcoming GEN4 regulation changes.
Buemi, who shares the record for most victories in Formula E history with 14 race wins, has become a cornerstone of Envision Racing’s competitive aspirations since joining the team at the start of Season 9. His tenure with the outfit has already yielded impressive results, including six podium finishes, two pole positions, and a memorable victory at the prestigious Monaco E-Prix earlier this year.
Immediate impact and championship success
Buemi’s arrival at Envision Racing proved immediately fruitful, as he played a crucial role in helping the team secure their maiden Teams’ World Championship during his debut season with the Formula E squad. This achievement marked a significant milestone for both driver and team, cementing their successful partnership.
While Season 11 presented greater challenges than initially expected, Buemi demonstrated his characteristic resilience and consistency throughout the campaign. His standout performance came with that Monaco triumph, which he followed with additional podium appearances in Jakarta and at the London season finale, showcasing his ability to deliver when it matters most.
Formula E legend
These recent accomplishments have further enhanced Buemi’s already impressive Formula E legacy. With 35 career podiums and 16 Pole Positions to his name, he remains one of the championship’s most decorated competitors. The former Season 2 Drivers’ Champion also holds the distinction of being present from Formula E’s inaugural Beijing E-Prix to the current day, making him one of the series’ most experienced campaigners. His record-setting six victories in a single Season 3 campaign remains unmatched in Formula E history.
“I’m super happy to re-sign with Envision Racing,” said the 36-year-old, whose new deal will see him navigate the team through Formula E’s transition to the GEN4 era beginning at the end of next year. “We have enjoyed plenty of great moments and results together over the past three seasons, and I am very excited and motivated to add to this.”
“Season 11 was a good year for me personally, achieving the win in Monaco and podiums which have been a great boost for us to keep working hard and achieve more this season.”
Praise from team leadership
Envision Racing Managing Director & CTO Sylvain Filippi expressed his satisfaction with retaining the Swiss driver’s services. “We’re delighted to confirm that Seb will remain part of the team,” he said. “His experience and technical insight have been instrumental in advancing both our car and our overall performance. We’re confident he will continue to drive us forward and deliver strong results.”
The team’s leadership clearly recognises Buemi’s value beyond just his on-track performances. His ability to provide detailed technical feedback and contribute to car development has proven crucial in Envision Racing’s competitive evolution since his arrival.
Franz Jung, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Envision Racing, reinforced the team’s commitment to their proven performer. “We are delighted to resign Sebastien to our team,” Jung stated. “Seb is a great asset to Envision Racing, and we are looking forward to continuing our journey with him.”
