Team WRT will continue its season-long celebration of BMW’s racing history at next weekend’s FIA World Endurance Championship round in Barcelona, with Anthony McIntosh’s #69 BMW M4 GT3 EVO adopting an iconic BASF-inspired design.

The LMGT3 entry will carry the distinctive red-and-white ‘Cassette Tape’ livery associated with BMW competition machinery during the early 1980s. McIntosh will once again share the car with Parker Thompson and Dan Harper as the trio looks to add another strong result during the closing stages of the 2026 campaign.

The Barcelona scheme continues a programme that has given the #69 BMW a different historic-inspired appearance at every WEC event this season. Most recently, the trio raced with a striking Jägermeister-inspired orange design at Fuji before Team WRT turned its attention towards another recognisable chapter of BMW’s motorsport history.

BASF ‘Cassette Tape’ design returns to BMW competition

Team WRT revealed the latest design on Monday, with the #69 M4 GT3 EVO set to adopt the red-and-white colours previously seen on BMW M1 Procar and Group 4 and Group 5 machinery during the early 1980s.

The BASF design became particularly distinctive through the circular graphics incorporated into the livery. Those shapes represented the spiral mechanics of a cassette tape, connecting the chemical company’s branding with a visual style that became closely associated with the BMW racing cars carrying it.

Team WRT’s modern interpretation transfers those elements onto the M4 GT3 EVO while continuing the retro theme McIntosh has pursued throughout his first full WEC campaign with the Belgian squad.

Barcelona therefore becomes the latest opportunity for the #69 crew to revisit a design associated with BMW’s past while competing with the manufacturer’s current GT3 challenger.

McIntosh continues season-long tribute programme

McIntosh has used every WEC round in 2026 to showcase a different livery connected to historic BMWs or BMW-powered machinery, making the #69 one of the most visually distinctive entries in this season’s LMGT3 field.

The project has covered several different eras of the manufacturer’s history rather than concentrating on a single period. Earlier in the campaign, the team brought BMW’s endurance racing heritage into focus when its special Le Mans livery celebrated the BMW-powered McLaren F1 GTR and V12 LMR, referencing the marque’s overall victories at the 24-hour classic in 1995 and 1999.

The team then shifted to one of BMW motorsport’s most immediately recognisable colour schemes for Fuji, where the #69 carried the bright orange appearance inspired by the Jägermeister-backed BMW racers of the 1970s.

Barcelona now takes the programme back to the early 1980s through BASF’s familiar cassette-themed graphics, continuing the chronological variety that has characterised McIntosh’s tribute liveries throughout the season.

McIntosh, Thompson and Harper target stronger Barcelona result

The special design arrives as McIntosh, Thompson and Harper look to improve on their result from the previous WEC round. The trio finished sixth in LMGT3 at last month’s 6 Hours of Fuji and currently occupy eighth in the championship standings heading into Barcelona.

Their 2026 campaign has combined the changing liveries with competitive performances on track. McIntosh entered the season alongside Canadian Thompson and British driver Harper aboard the second Team WRT BMW, with the programme bringing together three drivers from different stages of their endurance racing careers.

Barcelona gives the crew another opportunity to move forward in the championship while continuing the tribute programme that has accompanied them throughout the year. Although the underlying #69 BMW remains unchanged, its latest appearance will once again ensure the car stands apart within the LMGT3 field.

The BASF-inspired livery also maintains the central theme behind McIntosh’s 2026 project: using each WEC round to connect the current BMW M4 GT3 EVO with a different part of the manufacturer’s competition history.

With the Jägermeister colours now replaced by the distinctive red-and-white cassette graphics, Team WRT will bring another familiar BMW design back to the circuit when McIntosh, Thompson and Harper take on the next round of the 2026 FIA WEC season in Barcelona.
