Red Bull Racing have confirmed that F1 stalwart Tom McCullough will join the team as Head of Racing in 2027. This comes in response to GianPiero Lambiase leaving for McLaren in the not too distant future.
The British engineer has been involved in the sport since the early 2000s. He started out at Williams as a Performance Enginer in 2002, a role he held until the end of the 2000s. McCullough was then promoted to a Race Engineer position, working with Nico Hülkenberg, Rubens Barrichello and Bruno Senna until his departure from the team. The biggest moment on his side of the garage was at Interlagos in 2010 when the German took a stunning pole.
Having spent a year as Head of Trackside Engineering at Sauber, the Brit returned to the UK where he worked with Force India/Racing Point/Aston Martin for over a decade. He was Chief Engineer from 2014 to 2017 as Sergio Pérez bagged multiple podiums. Force India consistently punched above their weight in that time too.
McCullough was then appointed Performance Director under the various team names until the end of 2024. A first win in the Lawrence Stroll era came at the 2020 Sakhir GP thanks to Sergio Pérez, with Lance Stroll finishing in 3rd to cap off a memorable evening. Eight podiums in 2023 with Fernando Alonso was also a big highlight through that period.
He moved into the Aston Martin Performace Technologies group at the beginning of 2025 as Performance Director, moving away from the F1 team.
McCullough’s signing is a key one for Red Bull Racing as they have lost a lot of big names in recent years, although Max Verstappen recently extended his contract through to 2030.
