Ugo Ugochukwu heads into Round 1 of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 (F3) season at the Australian GP aiming to build on the experience he gained during his debut weekend at Albert Park last year.

Now racing with Campos Racing, the American driver returns to Melbourne for his second appearance at the circuit, hoping familiarity with the track will help him maximise the limited practice running typical of Formula 3 weekends.

When asked by Pit Debrief at the F3 press conference ahead of the 2026 F3 Australian GP Round, Ugochukwu emphasised how valuable that previous experience could prove.

“Yeah, I think obviously a bit of experience always helps,” He said. “Not many laps in an F3 practise session, so it’s good to be on top of the track and everything and just try to do better than last year.”

I think the first race of the season will be exciting. It’s hard to say who’s going to be at the front so we’ll focus on practise first and see how we get on and push on for quali.”

Focus on a strong start to the season

With the Melbourne round marking the start of a long and competitive championship campaign, Ugochukwu’s priority is to begin the year on the front foot.

While acknowledging the unpredictable nature of the opening race weekend, he made it clear that strong results early in the season could play an important role in shaping the title fight.

“I think the goal is to have a good start of the season,” he explained. “I think like everybody, having a win would be good.”

Really maximising round one, starting on the front foot would be good and I think it would put you in a good position for the championship. That’s the main goal, just having a good weekend and a good start to the year.”

Consistency playing a vital role in the championship fight

Looking ahead to the wider 2026 campaign, Ugochukwu expects the fight for the championship to be particularly competitive, with several teams likely to challenge for both titles.

Among those expected to be in contention are Campos Racing, MP Motorsport and TRIDENT.

For Ugochukwu, consistency across the season, both individually and as a team, could prove decisive.

“Yes, it’s going to be good, exciting. I hope it’ll be close, of course,” he said.

“I’ve been teammates with both Freddie and Tuukka [who were also in the press conference], and they’re really good drivers, really focused. And I’m sure it’s going to be a good year.”

Like you said, consistency is going to be what makes a difference at the end of the year. And yeah, hopefully we can have a few good battles and share a few podiums.”

With a new team and a season of opportunity ahead, Ugochukwu will be hoping his second visit to Melbourne provides the ideal platform to launch his 2026 Formula 3 campaign.
