Formula E returns to the iconic Tempelhof Airport in Berlin this weekend for rounds 13 and 14 of Season 11. The German capital once again plays host to the championship’s longest-standing venue, marking its 11th consecutive year on the calendar. With the added intrigue of Monday’s Rookie Test, the weekend promises no shortage of action.
Can the hometown hero Wehrlein catch up?
For Pascal Wehrlein, it’s not just another Formula E double-header. Racing on home soil brings extra attention—and additional responsibilities—but the Porsche driver insists the core approach remains the same.
“No, the preparation is the same,” Wehrlein told Pit Debrief. “We always prepare two weeks in advance for the race. We have meetings and discussions about the race weekend. But it’s nice that we don’t have a long trip here. Of course, we have more interviews and more things to do. So we have more things to prepare.”
What has to happen to deem it a good weekend for Porsche?
Wehrlein enters the Formula E Berlin weekend with a realistic eye on the championship battle. While Porsche remains in the hunt for the Teams’ title, sitting at the top of the constructors’ standings, the outlook is less optimistic on the Drivers’ side. Wehrlein trails championship leader Oliver Rowland by 69 points, with just four races remaining.
“The focus is to get the maximum out of the race weekend,” he said. “We are in the fight for all championships, but the driver championship is unrealistic. The gap is too big, and it’s not really in our hands anymore. That’s why we try to get as many points as possible. I think the championship will only be decided at the last race.”
With four races remaining, Oliver Rowland continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship with 172 points. However, with Porsche strong at this venue in recent years and racing on home turf, the team will be eager to delay Rowland’s and Nissan’s championship celebrations.
