R-ace GP has confirmed Yuki Sano as a full-season entrant for the 2026 Formula Regional Middle East Trophy. The Japanese driver strengthens the team’s winter line-up and brings valuable experience from Japan’s highly competitive single-seater ladder.

Early promise in Japanese Formula 4

Sano began his car racing career in Japanese Formula 4 in 2023 with the TGR-DC Racing School. He adapted quickly to single-seaters and delivered two podium finishes during his rookie season, which allowed him to end the year seventh in the standings. His consistent performances highlighted strong racecraft and composure under pressure.

Sano returned to Japanese Formula 4 in 2024 with renewed confidence. He claimed his maiden victory at the opening round of the season, immediately establishing himself as a title contender. He continued to deliver regular points finishes throughout the year, confirming steady development and technical understanding.

Super Formula Lights success

In 2025, Sano stepped up to Super Formula Lights with TOM’S, one of Japan’s most respected teams. Despite limited experience at the level, he delivered an impressive campaign and finished second in the championship. He consistently challenged more experienced drivers and demonstrated strong qualifying speed and race management.

Sano’s performances earned continued backing from the Toyota Gazoo Racing Driver Challenge Program. With that support, he expanded his career internationally by signing with R-ace GP for 2026. He will contest both the FRME Trophy and the restructured Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) with the same team.

Winter series as a development platform

The Middle East Trophy will provide Sano with extensive mileage, varied circuits and early exposure to the new Formula Regional car. The full-season commitment allows him to build continuity with engineers and refine his approach ahead of the European campaign.

With discipline, consistency and race-winning pedigree, Sano represents a key pillar of R-ace GP’s 2026 Formula Regional project.
