Zak O’Sullivan becomes a full-time Formula E driver with Envision Racing after a year of development work with the Silverstone-based squad.
After a year of development duties, completing test events on four occasions, the British driver will line up alongside German Maximilian Günther as Formula E embarks on its brand new GEN 4 era.
Super Formula keeps O’Sullivan sharp after F2 heartbreak
Alongside his Formula E duties as Envision’s development driver, the British driver competed in Japanese Super Formula. The 21 year-old has been a common name in the Japanese single-seater series having featured since 2025, a year after his surprise departure from Formula 2.
Prior to his exit, the Williams academy driver had claimed two victories and several podiums in what was turning out to be a promising campaign.
But the harsh reality of motorsport came back to bite the youngster. Half way through the season, O’Sullivan announced he was bowing out due to financial issues.
Having taken part in a Super Formula test in late 2024, O’Sullivan joined the series permanently from 2025. Despite this, Formula E was a series he said was something he “always had his sights on.”
A season to develop ahead of full Formula E campaign in 2027
At the start of the 2025 Formula E season, Envision announced that Zak O’Sullivan would join the team as a simulator driver.
Several test opportunities followed as the 21 year-old embedded himself in the team and series.
His debut came in Season 11 as he participated in the Rookie Free Practice session ahead of the Jeddah E-Prix.
Three more Rookie Test appearances followed in Berlin, Madrid and Miami, where he topped the timesheets. The pace he displayed was promising with 2026 acting as a preparation year. Now the British driver has adjusted the all-electric category he is ready to step up to a full-time drive.
O’Sullivan’s first words as a fully fledged Formula E driver
Fresh off the announcement of Maximilian Günther as their first driver for 2026, Envision Racing CTO Sylvain Filippi expressed his delight at the confirmation of O’Sullivan.
“We are very happy to announce Zak O’Sullivan as a full-time driver for Season 13 and beyond. We’ve spent a lot of time with him during Season 12, and he has established himself in the team very well.
“We have been very impressed with Zak’s performance, both on track during the rookie sessions, and his commitment off track. We are very much looking forward to seeing him in our car and embarking on his rookie season in Formula E with us.”
O’Sullivan mirrored Filippi’s excitement saying, “I am very excited to be joining the team full-time for the upcoming season.
“I’ve spent the last year embedding myself into the team. I can’t wait to get the season started in the new GEN 4 car.
“Formula E is a championship I’ve had my sights on for a long time so to be joining the grid for Season 13 at such an exciting time for the sport is such a great feeling.”
