The Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team has taken another decisive step in developing future racing talent by signing 17-year-old Zhenrui Chi to its Driver Academy. The announcement, made at the AMR Technology Campus in Silverstone, highlights the team’s continued investment in nurturing young drivers from across the globe.

Moreover, the addition of Chi reflects the team’s long-term vision to build a competitive pipeline of emerging talent. As a result, the academy continues to expand its reach while reinforcing its reputation as a key development platform in motorsport.

A promising talent earns his opportunity as Chi steps up to the Aston Martin Driver Academy

Chi arrives with a growing reputation as one of China’s most exciting young prospects. Notably, the team identified him during an evaluation day in Mugello, where he immediately impressed with his technical ability and composed approach.

Following that initial assessment, the academy closely monitored his performances throughout the 2025 season. During this period, he consistently demonstrated front-running pace and strong racecraft across both European and Middle Eastern Formula 4 categories. Consequently, his results confirmed his readiness for the next stage of development.

As part of the programme, Chi will compete in Formula Regional machinery featuring Aston Martin Aramco’s iconic green livery. This step not only elevates his career but also introduces the team’s brand to another competitive junior category.

Furthermore, his participation strengthens the academy’s presence across multiple racing tiers. In doing so, Aston Martin ensures its young drivers gain diverse experience while preparing for higher levels of competition.

A comprehensive development programme

The Driver Academy offers a structured and highly personalised pathway. In particular, Chi will benefit from racecraft mentorship provided by experienced team personnel both at the track and at Silverstone.

In addition, the programme includes physical conditioning and media training, ensuring he develops as a complete professional. Therefore, the academy equips him with the skills required to meet the demands of modern motorsport.

Chi embraces the challenge

Chi expressed both pride and determination following the announcement. He acknowledged the significance of joining such a prestigious organisation while recognising the responsibility that comes with it.

“Joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team family is a huge honour for me. It’s a great responsibility, but also an incredible opportunity and motivation to keep pushing myself to the next level. Knowing that I have the support of such an iconic team, with all its experience and expertise, gives me a lot of confidence for the journey ahead. I know the road will require hard work and dedication, and I’m fully aware that I have to continue to prove I deserve this opportunity. I’m ready to give everything I have and I can’t wait to start this journey with Aston Martin Aramco.”

Academy leadership backs long-term potential

Nuno Pinto, Racing Director of the Driver Academy, reinforced the team’s confidence in their new recruit. He highlighted Chi’s consistent performances and strong mindset as key factors behind the decision.

“Zhenrui is exactly the kind of talent our Academy exists to find. We first saw him at an evaluation test in Mugello and were immediately impressed by his ability and approach. We then followed his progress through the rest of the 2025 season, where he showed not only pace but also strong consistency in one of the most competitive junior categories in racing, Italian F4. We are delighted to welcome him to the Academy and to support his development through our programme at Silverstone. With the resources of the AMR Technology Campus and the environment we have built around our drivers, we believe we can help him to continue to grow. This is a long-term partnership, and we are looking forward to the journey ahead together.”

With this signing, Aston Martin Aramco continues to build a strong foundation for the future. At the same time, Chi embarks on a pivotal chapter in his racing career. Ultimately, both driver and team share a clear objective: sustained growth, consistent performance, and long-term success at the highest levels of motorsport.
