During Qualifying in Arlington, Marcus Ericsson scored pole position for the first time in his IndyCar career. Ericsson started the race ahead of Alex Palou and Pato O’Ward. After crashing during Qualifying, Scott McLaughlin started the race down in P25.
Ericsson maintained his lead, attempting to build a gap to Palou, while Will Power got past O’Ward. Unfortunately, Mick Schumacher earned a drive-through penalty for avoidable contact with Christian Lundgaard at the start of the race.
Drivers on the soft tyres started to pit around Lap 15, with the tyres degrading faster than teams expected. The Andretti drivers had a series of poor pit stops, causing Ericsson to lose his lead to Palou.
Power extended his stint on the soft tyres, but lost time after almost making contact with Louis Foster in the pits. Around the same time, teammates David Malukas and Josef Newgarden made contact. On Lap 39, Schumacher made contact with Newgarden, spinning his car and falling to the back of the pack.
With 20 laps left, Kirkwood chased down the reigning championship for the win. On Lap 65, the Andretti driver overtook Palou for the race lead. Rasmussen crashed into the wall with four laps left, bringing out a caution.
The last two laps were a shootout for the win. Another yellow is brought out on the final lap, as Nolan Siegel and Romain Grosjean collided.
Kirkwood took the race win ahead of Palou and teammate Power. Ericsson finished in P4, narrowly missing the podium.
