Lola Yamaha ABT drivers share their thoughts after just missing out on points during the Formula E Madrid E-Prix.

The Lola Yamaha ABT outfit endured a challenging outing at the Madrid E-Prix, narrowly missing out on points despite showing promising pace across the weekend, as detailed in the team’s official race report. Lola Yamaha‘s performance in Madrid showed encouraging signs for the team despite the final result.

After a solid showing in practice and qualifying, both drivers demonstrated competitiveness, with Zane Maloney securing a place just outside the duels and Lucas di Grassi recovering from a difficult qualifying session. However, race circumstances ultimately prevented the team from converting performance into points during the Formula E Madrid E-Prix weekend.

Lola Yamaha’s weekend in Madrid highlighted both the team’s progress and the challenges they continue to face. Following the race, both drivers reflected on a weekend that showed clear progress but was ultimately defined by missed opportunities.

Lucas di Grassi highlighted the team’s strong race execution despite earlier struggles, saying, “I think today was not the best day. There were a lot of points to improve in the wet in the morning and a lot of points on my side also to improve in qualifying. In the race I think we did a very good job, adapted our strategy and executed it well, coming from last to P1 at one point. It is great to be able to say that we led a race for Lola once again after a long time. We kept pushing for a while but unfortunately finished just on the edge of the points again.”

He also emphasised the team’s continued development, adding, “We have learnt a lot over the weekend but still have many elements to continue to develop, however, I thoroughly believe in this team and their ability to do this. We have a bit of time now before the next race so we are going to refocus and push even harder ahead of Berlin.”

Zane Maloney reflects on race setback

Zane Maloney echoed the positives in performance while acknowledging the impact of his penalty during the Formula E race in Madrid driving for Lola, stating, “It was a great weekend from the team pace wise. We were quick in both the dry and the wet, finished P10 in qualifying and were very close to the duels again, so I’m very proud of the team and the steps we are making.”

However, he noted the decisive setback in the race, adding, “Unfortunately, overuse of energy before getting to the grid in the race caused us to get a drive through penalty which effectively meant our race was over. I’m very disappointed for everyone… For the race to then end before it had even started is disappointing, but we will make sure we rule such issues out in future and come back stronger.”

Race execution and setbacks define Lola Yamaha ABT’s Madrid E-Prix

Despite the disappointing result, the race itself featured strong moments for the team. Di Grassi briefly led the race after an effective use of Attack Mode, demonstrating the potential within the package.

However, track position and race circumstances ultimately proved decisive, with the team unable to maintain a points-paying position in the closing stages.

In the context of Lola Yamaha’s performance in the Madrid round, the result highlights both the progress made and the fine margins that define outcomes in Formula E.

Positives to build on despite missed points

While the final result did not reflect their performance potential, Lola Yamaha ABT showed clear signs of improvement across the weekend.

With encouraging pace in both dry and wet conditions, the team will look to build on these gains as the championship heads to Berlin. Addressing operational issues and refining execution will be key to converting similar performances into points in future rounds. The result ultimately underlined both the team’s progress and the areas still requiring refinement.

While the Lola Formula E result did not fully reflect their performance potential, the team will look to carry this momentum into upcoming rounds as the Formula E season continues to unfold.
