After 14 years with Mercedes F1 Team, Dan Milner joined Williams F1 Team as Chief Engineer of Vehicle Technology. Milner brings Championship-winning experience from Brackley, where he worked for Honda and Brawn strechting across Research & Development and powertrains, over to Grove.

Championship-winning experienced Milner joins Williams F1 Team

Williams F1 Team announced their appointment of Dan Milner as their new Chief Engineer of Vehicle Technology. “Atlassian Williams F1 Team has a clear, ambitious plan to move forward, and I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and knowledge to help accelerate that journey,” says the newly appointed Chief Engineer.

Matt Harman, Williams’ Technical Director says: “Dan will be central to our vehicle technology plan and to converting innovation into consistent performance gains on track.”

During his time at Mercedes, Milner contributed to multiple World Championships, including eight consecutive Constructors’ Championships, in senior engineering roles.

Milner’s timeline working in Formula 1

Dan Milner joined Mercedes F1 Team in late 2011 as a Systems Engineer. In July 2013, he worked as Powertrain Design Engineer. About two years later, he was promoted to Lead Powertrain Design Engineer. Another promotion followed roughly three years after the previous one to Head of Powertrain Integration and Transmission Design. In November 2023, Milner was promoted to his most recent role as Chief Engineer Research and Development.

Milner departs Mercedes F1 Team after more than fourteen years. However, he has more than 20 years of association with Mercedes, having worked at Honda, Brawn and the F1 Team.

New beginnings at Williams for Milner

As Chief Engineer of Vehicle Technology at Williams F1 Team, Milner will be responsible for driving on- and off-car performances through complex technology programmes. Additionally, he will oversee first-principles engineering, foster development across hardware, simulation, test and quality. Integrating strong links with car programmes to ensure the conversion of ideas into performance is another part of his role.
