The IndyCar grid prepares for Practice 2 in Long Beach, the fifth round of the 2026 season. Kyle Kirkwood lead the championship standings, following his dominant display in Barber, whereas Will Power was the fastest during yesterday’s Practice 1.
Practice 1 had seen the issuance of two red flags, with the first one caused by a mechanical failure on Mick Schumacher’s Rahal Letterman Laningan car. It was a rather unfortunate happening for the German, as he manage to only get very little track time ahead of his issues as a rookie on a street circuit.
In the early moments of IndyCar Practice 2 in Long Beach, Pato O’Ward almost came into contact with the track walls , but was able to recover. The Arrow McLaren driver went on to set the momentarily fastest lap in 1:08.051 after the first sets of timed laps.
AJ Foyt’s Ferrucci struggled with lockup on his front tyres, running wide off track in the runoff at Turn 1. During the final minutes of the shared grid session, championship leader Kirkwood took the top spot. After taking his first IndyCar race win here in Long Beach in 2024 and confirming his love for the track with another win in 2025, he’ll definitely try to go for a third in a row. However, O’Ward set a 1:07.791 shortly after.

The second group of drivers had to stop shortly after the beginning of the session again. In fact, Mick Schumacher’s session came to a halt right at the fountain. However, the partaking drivers were able to complete only one attempt, as DCR’s Grosjean heavily crashed after Turn 1. Luckily, the driver was able to exit the track on his own legs, albeit with the support of the medical staff.
The crash interrupted the session before the end of track time. Ericsson was in the lead.
