Nikita Bedrin reinforced his status as the standout driver of the GB3 Championship weekend at Silverstone by claiming a second consecutive victory. The VRD Racing driver delivered another composed and calculated performance, expertly managing a race that featured multiple interruptions and shifting dynamics.
While others struggled to maintain consistency amid Safety Cars and intense midfield battles, Bedrin remained firmly in control. He combined strong racecraft with measured decision-making, ensuring that he capitalised on every opportunity. Consequently, he now heads into the final race of the weekend with maximum momentum and growing confidence.
Strong start and decisive early control crucial for Bedrin in GB3 Race 2 at Silverstone
Bedrin entered Race 2 determined to improve on his opening getaway from Race 1, and although he made progress, he still saw room for refinement.
“This one was a bit more tricky. Much better start than Race 1, still need to improve a little bit, but apart from that, I think the pace is always there. Yeah, we had a great battle in the first lap, so really happy with that. And then just controlled it. A few Safety Cars, of course. Last restart was not ideal, but [I] wanted to try something different. It was kind of boring doing the same thing all the time.”
Despite briefly losing the lead off the line, he reacted immediately and reclaimed control within the opening corners. From that point onward, he dictated the pace at the front, preventing his rivals from applying sustained pressure. Moreover, his willingness to experiment with restart techniques highlights both his confidence and adaptability under race conditions.
Managing pressure and mastering restarts
As the race unfolded, repeated Safety Car periods threatened to disrupt the rhythm of the frontrunners. However, Bedrin approached each restart with clarity and composure. Rather than allowing uncertainty to creep in, he relied on his understanding of the circuit and race situation.
“I genuinely didn’t really care much about it, to be honest, Safety Car, Safety Car. It’s quite difficult to pass here on the restart, I would say, so I knew I had it under control. And then after the first few corners, I would have a gap.”
This mindset proved crucial. Each time the race resumed, Bedrin executed clean getaways and quickly built a buffer to the chasing pack. As a result, he neutralised potential threats before they could develop, effectively controlling the race despite the interruptions.
Confidence rising ahead of reverse-grid test
With two victories already secured, Bedrin now turns his attention to the reverse-grid race with clear intent. Rather than adopting a conservative approach, he remains openly ambitious about his chances of completing a clean sweep.
“I’m 100% positive on that. I think we have great chance of doing that. We have great pace, especially in the afternoon, we are really quick. So hopefully we’ll have a good race and really looking forward to it. It’s going to be fun for sure.”
His confidence stems not only from results but also from the underlying performance of the car. Furthermore, his strong pace in varying conditions suggests he can fight through the field, even from a less favourable starting position.
In addition to his own performance, Bedrin emphasised the importance of the team’s preparation heading into the season. VRD Racing has clearly arrived at Silverstone with a well-balanced and competitive package.
“Yeah, I think we’ve done a great job over the winter to set them up good.”
That preparation has translated into immediate success on track. The car has shown consistency across different race scenarios, while Bedrin has extracted its full potential with impressive precision. Consequently, the team now stands as an early benchmark for the rest of the field.
Momentum building for a potential clean sweep
Taken together, Bedrin’s performances across the first two races highlight a driver operating at a high level of confidence and control. He has combined speed with intelligence, adapting to changing circumstances while maintaining a clear strategic approach.
As the weekend progresses, the focus now shifts to whether he can convert this dominance into a third victory. If he succeeds, he will not only complete a clean sweep but also send a strong message to his championship rivals.
