Jin Nakamura closed out his first 2026 GB3 weekend in style by claiming a dramatic last-lap victory at Silverstone. Although he admitted to a difficult event overall, the Hitech driver delivered when it mattered most, capitalising on a late opportunity to secure a memorable win. As a result, he left the opening round with strong momentum despite earlier struggles.

Nakamura acknowledged that he faced difficulties throughout the event, particularly in finding consistent pace. However, he persisted and stayed focused on improving across each session, which ultimately paid off in the final race.

“Yeah, I was struggling quite hard this weekend, but yeah, I managed to win on this last day, so I’m happy about that.”

The decisive moment came late in the race, with Nakamura using the DRS advantage and slipstream to challenge for the lead. Although he had initially hoped to make a move earlier, he waited until the right moment presented itself on the final lap.

“Yeah, actually, I wanted to overtake a little bit earlier, but my pace was not enough. But yeah, I’m happy to manage this result.”

Consequently, his patience proved crucial as he executed a perfectly timed move to secure victory in the closing stages. This was especially so as Nakamura also had to balance aggression with caution, as the battle for the lead risked allowing Kyuho Lee to capitalise on any mistake. Nevertheless, he maintained control during the crucial final corners and held on to first place.

This composure ensured he converted opportunity into maximum reward, despite the high-pressure environment and close proximity of his rivals.

Looking ahead to Spa

Following his breakthrough win, Nakamura now turns his attention to the next round at Spa-Francorchamps. He expects another demanding challenge but remains focused on continued improvement and consistency.

“Yeah, next [race] weekend will be Spa. It’s going to be a really hard race as well. So I just want to keep pushing for this series and keep working hard.”

As a result, he carries both confidence and momentum into one of the most challenging circuits on the calendar.

Appreciation for team support

Nakamura also expressed gratitude towards his team for their support throughout the weekend. He highlighted the importance of preparation, data gathering, and experience gained at Silverstone.

“It’s very nice. Yeah, very good drivers are here, so it’s good training as well. Yeah, I’m able to get more mileage on Silverstone, so that’s really nice. So I want to say a big thanks to the team, Hitech and TGRDC. So, thank you so much.”

In conclusion, Nakamura’s Silverstone victory demonstrated patience, adaptability, and strong racecraft under pressure. Although he described the weekend as difficult, he still emerged as a race winner. Ultimately, his performance sets a strong foundation for the season ahead, with Spa offering the next opportunity to build on this breakthrough result.
