Jin Nakamura produced a sensational final lap to claim victory in the closing GB3 race of the 2026 Silverstone season opener. The Hitech driver executed a perfectly judged move at the penultimate corner to snatch the lead from Flynn Jackes, securing a dramatic win in one of the weekend’s most intense contests.
Moreover, Kyuho Lee capitalised on the same moment to move into second, completing a remarkable late reshuffle at the front. As a result, the top three finished separated by less than half a second, underlining the fierce competitiveness of the race.
Jackes controls before late pressure and a three-way battle decides the race
Initially, Flynn Jackes looked in complete command. Starting from pole on the reverse grid, he used his experience to dictate the pace and build a steady advantage over the chasing pack. Although Nakamura steadily chipped away at the gap, Jackes retained control through the early stages.
However, a late safety car intervention dramatically changed the complexion of the race. The neutralisation eliminated Jackes’ lead and brought the field back together, setting up a tense sprint to the finish. Consequently, the pressure intensified as the laps counted down.
Following the restart, Jackes defended resolutely and resisted sustained attacks. Nevertheless, on the final lap, he took a highly defensive line into Vale, which allowed Nakamura to close rapidly.
The pair ran side by side through the Village and Loop complex, while Kyuho Lee joined the battle as the leaders compromised each other’s pace. Heading down the Wellington Straight, all three drivers converged into a thrilling fight for victory.
At Brooklands, the trio went three-wide under braking—Jackes in the middle, Nakamura around the outside, and Lee diving to the inside. Despite the intensity of the moment, all three avoided contact. Crucially, the outside line proved advantageous, enabling Nakamura to carry momentum and surge into the lead.
Podium fight goes to the wire
Nakamura maintained his advantage through the final corners to secure victory, while Lee edged ahead of Jackes to claim second place. Jackes, despite leading for much of the race, completed the podium in third.
Just behind, Lucas Fluxá narrowly missed out on a top-three finish in fourth, only a tenth of a second away. Meanwhile, Nikita Bedrin delivered an impressive recovery drive from 12th on the grid to finish fifth, strengthening his championship position.
Rodrigo Gonzalez and Patricio Gonzalez followed in sixth and seventh respectively. In addition, Maxim Rehm climbed to eighth, while Rowan Campbell-Pilling and Abbi Pulling completed the top ten, with Pulling securing her first points of the weekend.
