Jin Nakamura produced an impressive drive through the field to finish fourth in Race 2 of the 2026 GB3 Championship at Silverstone. Starting from ninth on the grid, the Hitech driver combined decisive overtakes with growing confidence to emerge as one of the race’s most notable performers.

Although late-race drama helped shape the final order, Nakamura ensured he remained in contention throughout. As a result, he secured a strong points finish while continuing to build momentum in the early stages of the season.

Fast start by Nakamura lays the foundation for GB3 Race 2 progress at Silverstone

Nakamura made immediate gains in the opening laps, quickly moving into contention with a series of clean and effective moves. His strong start allowed him to establish track position early, which proved crucial in a race interrupted by multiple Safety Cars.

“Yeah, it wasn’t bad. So, I had quite good first laps, and I made position P4, but a little bit shameful that last lap. I could be on the podium, I think. But yeah, it wasn’t bad.”

Despite his satisfaction with the overall result, Nakamura acknowledged that a podium had been within reach. Therefore, the finish carried a mix of encouragement and frustration.

Learning from previous mistakes

Compared to his earlier performance in the weekend, Nakamura showed clear improvement in both confidence and execution. He addressed the shortcomings from Race 1 and applied those lessons effectively.

“Yeah, I think this race wasn’t too bad. But yesterday, I was too shy. My driving was too shy, and I couldn’t push enough, so it was my bad point yesterday. Then I think I improved a lot from yesterday. So it was very good.”

This shift in approach allowed him to race more assertively. Consequently, he maximised his opportunities and delivered a far more competitive performance.

Adapting between GB3 and Formula 3 machinery

Nakamura also highlighted the technical and strategic differences between GB3 and FIA Formula 3 machinery. Managing this transition remains a key challenge as he balances commitments across both categories.

“Yes, of course. I have to manage quite a lot of tyres in Formula 3. But in the GB3 car, you can push all the time like crazy. So yeah, it’s very good.”

This contrast requires adjustments in both driving style and racecraft. However, Nakamura appears to be adapting quickly, using each outing to refine his approach.

Confidence building despite missed podium chance

Although he narrowly missed out on a top-three finish, Nakamura’s performance represents a significant step forward. He demonstrated improved aggression, better race management and an ability to capitalise on opportunities.

Looking ahead, this result provides a solid platform for further progress. If he continues to refine his approach and build confidence, a podium finish looks increasingly likely in the races to come.
