It’s time for the first leg of the Formula E Berlin E-Prix double header as the Round 8 race is underway!
Edoardo Mortara will start from pole, having won the Final duel against championship leader Pascal Wehrlein, ahead of Rowland and Ticktum. However, Jaguar had expressed great pace earlier during FP2 with Antonio Felix da Costa.
At the start, Nissan’s Rowland overtook Wehrlein, with Cassidy and Maloney making their way up to the top 5 as well.
By Lap 3 the reigning champion got into the race lead, however it was short lasted as the Italian-Swiss resumed his position, with Cassidy sliding in between the duo.
The fight for the lead, however, has only just started, with Maloney and Günther cycling in P1. Citroën’s Cassidy overtook three drivers in a corner to return in the provisional lead, but once again the quick evolving grid changed.
Lola Yamaha then settled into a 1-2, with Di Grassi leading from Maloney, but Cassidy managed to return in the fight for the win by the halfway point of the race.
With 19 drivers in one second every small mistake or brush or contact can make the difference between a podium and nothing.
Wehrlein and Ticktum were among the first to stop for Pit Boost, with Wehrlein taking up new tyres as well.
After the set of stops the grid was pretty shaken, with Rowland leading form Cassidy. With 10 laps to go Mueller stormed into the lead, quickly building a 2 seconds lead, which grew to over four in just the space of another couple of laps.
Following the race, pole sitter Edoardo Mortara became the championship leader ahead of tomorrow’s second race.
