James Egozi leaves Paul Ricard as the early leader of the 2026 Eurocup-3 Championship after a strong and consistent Round 1 in France. The Palou Motorsport driver scored victory in Race 1, added third place in the Sprint Race, and then secured second in Race 2 to finish the weekend on 52 points.

As a result, Egozi already holds a useful advantage at the top of the standings. However, Keanu Al Azhari, Ean Eyckmans, René Lammers, and Alex Powell all remain within striking distance after a highly competitive first round.

Egozi sets the early benchmark

Egozi built his championship lead through consistency and race-winning pace. He began the weekend by claiming victory in Race 1, where he moved into the lead and controlled the closing stages. Then, he backed that result up with a podium in the Sprint Race.

On Sunday, Egozi again fought at the front. He challenged Al Azhari throughout Race 2 and finished second after a close battle for victory. Therefore, his 52-point total reflects not only speed, but also strong race execution across all three contests.

Al Azhari responds with Race 2 victory

Al Azhari sits second in the drivers’ standings with 39 points after a mixed but impressive weekend. The Hitech driver showed strong pace throughout testing and qualifying, yet Race 1 immediately tested his resilience after a poor start dropped him down the order.

Nevertheless, he recovered to seventh in Race 1, finished seventh again in the Sprint Race, and then delivered a statement victory in Race 2. Consequently, Al Azhari remains a clear early title threat despite leaving points on the table in the opening race.

Rookies make immediate impact

The Rookie class also shaped the championship picture at Paul Ricard. Eyckmans enjoyed the most complete rookie weekend and now sits third overall with 34 points. The MP Motorsport driver finished fourth in Race 1, fourth in the Sprint Race, and third in Race 2.

Meanwhile, Lammers started the season strongly with second in Race 1 and fourth in Race 2, although a difficult Sprint Race limited his total. Powell also impressed for Griffin Core, combining podium pace with consistent points to move into fifth overall.

Together, Eyckmans, Lammers, and Powell showed that the rookies can influence the title battle from the opening round.

MP Motorsport leads Teams’ standings

MP Motorsport heads the teams’ championship after Round 1 with 70 points. The team used its depth effectively, with Eyckmans, Lammers, and Gianmarco Pradel all contributing strong results across the weekend.

However, Palou Motorsport remains close behind on 65 points. Egozi’s lead in the drivers’ standings gives the team a strong foundation, while Heitor Dall’Agnol and Rafaël Pérard also added valuable points.

Hitech ranks third with 46 points after Al Azhari’s Race 2 win and Genaro Trappa’s sixth-place finish in the same race. Griffin Core follows on 40 points, helped by Powell and Enzo Tarnvanichkul, who both featured near the front during the weekend.

Tight gaps promise close championship fight

Although Egozi leaves France with the championship lead, Round 1 suggests that the 2026 Eurocup-3 season will not revolve around one driver or one team. Three different drivers won across the opening weekend, while several teams showed front-running pace.

Therefore, the next round in Portugal could quickly reshape the standings. Egozi holds the advantage for now, but Al Azhari, Eyckmans, Lammers, Powell, and the leading teams all leave Paul Ricard with reasons for confidence.
