Pace Performance’s Josh McLean demonstrated both resilience and pace during the opening round of the 2026 GB4 Championship at Silverstone. After a challenging Qualifying session, the British driver battled through the field across all three races, signalling that he has the tools to be a strong contender this season.

Recovery drives define Silverstone weekend

McLean began the weekend with a tough start, lining up 17th and 16th on the grid for the first two races. However, he quickly made up ground, finishing 12th and ninth in those races before closing out the weekend with a 10th-place finish. These results delivered his biggest points haul in GB4 so far, totalling 34 points.

“Silverstone was a very good recovery in all three races given our qualifying,” McLean said to GB4. “Damage limitation, so I was pretty happy with the end results. Clean racing and a good haul of points. The battles at Silverstone were really good, particularly when we were almost three into one at Brooklands!”

Furthermore, as he returns to Sean Byrne’s team for a second season, McLean believes that the continuity has been a key factor in his strong performance.

“Remaining with Pace for my second year is huge for my career; it’s been a great decision and I’m very happy with the progress we’ve been making,” he commented.

Looking ahead to Oulton Park with Qualifying in focus

With Silverstone behind him, McLean is now preparing for Oulton Park, a track where Qualifying and track position play an even greater role. Drawing on experience from last year, he anticipates a challenging weekend but is confident in his team’s ability to adapt to any conditions.

“Race experience is key for Oulton with it being much harder to overtake than at Silverstone, but Qualifying is more important,” McLean said. “We had a bit of everything at Oulton last year! I’m unsure whether the weather will be as difficult as it was last year but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless. The team did a great job of handling it last year so we’ll look to do the same should we get a repeat.”

Looking to improve his results, McLean emphasises the importance of one-lap pace and starting positions.

“A good Qualifying is what we need. If we can be in the top-10 on Saturday morning, it’ll be a good step from Silverstone and a great step forward from last year.”

With a weekend of strong recovery drives behind him, McLean’s determination, adaptability, and steady improvement suggest he will be one to watch as the GB4 season unfolds.
