In opening practice, George Russell was fastest from Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc. Lots of rookies ran in the session, with Leonardo Fornaroli the quickest in P5, ahead of an impressive Paul Aron in the Audi.

Unfortunately for Luke Browning, an electrical problem meant he never got out on track in his Williams.

Lando Norris, Isack Hadjar, Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton, Alex Albon, Nico Hülkenberg and Valtteri Bottas all returned for the late afternoon session.

An early stoppage for Liam Lawson caused a VSC. The Kiwi seemingly had a gearbox problem.
