The 2026 F1 Barcelona-Catalunya GP weekend got underway with FP1, as George Russell set the pace in the opening session, view the full results below.
A total of seven teams opted to run rookie drivers during the session, with Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Williams, Audi and Cadillac all making changes to their regular line-ups. Barcelona is a circuit well known to many junior drivers thanks to its extensive use for testing and its presence on several feeder-series calendars, making it a popular choice for rookie FP1 outings.
During the FP1 session, Bortoleto lost the rear of his Audi machinery into Turn 9, running wide into the gravel but making his way back on track.
Browning also did not head out for the session, as Alex Albon’s Williams had electrical issues.
At the conclusion of the session, Russell finished on top, with Oscar Piastri in P2 and Charles Leclerc in P3. Fornaroli was highest in for McLaren from the rookie drivers.
