2026 GTWC Australia: Queensland: Qualifying 1: Targett delivers late pole lap

Targett produced his fastest lap during the closing stages of a disrupted opening Qualifying session. The SRO GT Academy driver recorded a 1:08.455 to secure pole and became the first driver from the programme to claim an SRO pole position.

However, the session changed when the #14 Volante Rosso Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 became beached and triggered a red flag. Several drivers had yet to complete representative laps, which placed greater pressure on the field when the session resumed.

Jayden Ojeda initially set the benchmark after the restart in the #66 Move My Wheels by Tigani Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. Nevertheless, Targett responded with his decisive lap and moved to the top of the timesheets.

Behind him, Brendon Leitch secured a Tigani Motorsport front-row lockout in the #44 Geyer Valmont Racing by Tigani Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3. Leitch finished just over one tenth of a second behind Targett.

Broc Feeney placed the #1 Kelso Electrical Team MPC Audi R8 LMS Evo II third after leading during the early stages. Meanwhile, Will Davison completed the second row in the #181 OnlyFans Racing Ferrari 296 GT3, with approximately three tenths separating the pair.

In the Trophy Class, Luke Youlden led the way in the #71 AED Consulting by Tigani Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R. His 1:09.4680 lap placed him ahead of Paul Stokell in the #24 KFC Team MPC Audi R8 LMS Evo II.

2026 GTWC Australia: Queensland: Qualifying 2: Tigani completes team sweep

Justin Tigani continued the team’s strong Qualifying form in the second session. The series debutant delivered a 1:07.587 during the final stages to put the #56 Mercedes-AMG on pole once again.

Tigani had completed limited running in the GT3 car before the event. However, he quickly found enough confidence to beat Targett’s earlier benchmark and secure the leading starting position for the second race.

Renee Gracie, who performed well in Practice, came close to denying Tigani Motorsport its clean sweep. She placed the #181 OnlyFans Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 second and missed pole by only four hundredths of a second.

Sergio Pires qualified third in the #44 Geyer Valmont Racing by Tigani Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3. Brad Schumacher followed in fourth aboard the #1 Kelso Electrical Team MPC Audi, which left the same four entries on the opening two rows for both races.

Cameron Rees recovered from a spin that caused another red flag to top the Trophy Class in the Volante Rosso Motorsport Aston Martin. Nathan Halstead followed in the #71 AED Consulting by Tigani Motorsport Porsche, finishing around four tenths behind.
