Trident’s John Bennett claimed his maiden victory during the F2 Sprint Race at the 2026 Austrian GP after a last-lap lunge, full results below.
On Friday, Qualifying belonged to Campos Racing and Noel León, who claimed Mexico’s historic first F2 pole position. However, with the reverse-grid format in play, Sebastian Montoya and John Bennett lined up on the front row of the grid and led the field down to Turn 1.
Heading down into Turn 3, several drivers found themselves involved in an incident as Rafael Câmara tagged the rear of Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, sending both the Thai driver and Goethe into a spin. A safety car was then deployed to recover the ART driver’s car. As the race unfolded, drivers continued to trade positions in several close battles throughout the field.
Meanwhile, out in front, Montoya lunged down the inside of Bennett to take the lead of the race. On Lap 13, Joshua Dürksen marked the fourth retirement of the race, as Invicta Racing told the Paraguayan to head back into the pit lane. Settling into a rhythm, some drivers began managing their tyres while others pushed on in an effort to make progress through the field.
Soon after, Colton Herta found himself stopped at the side of the track, deploying a virtual safety car. After an incident on the opening lap, Tsolov went on a strong recovery drive, fighting his way through the field to eventually find himself in P9. However, a decisive last-lap lunge from Bennett saw him claim the lead from Montoya. The Trident driver crossed the line to claim his first F2 win and podium.
