After the Free Practice session earlier Friday, Noah Strømsted, Taito Kato and Freddie Slater were the top three. However, the Qualifying session brought more chaos for the 30 F3 drivers, as the top three positions changed.
The session began with Jin Nakamura setting the early benchmark at 1:22.938 before the rest of the field completed their opening flying laps. As more representative times came in, the pace continued to improve as track conditions evolved.
Ten minutes into the session, several drivers exceeded track limits at the Red Bull Ring, where the fine margin between extracting the maximum performance and running wide or into the gravel was once again evident.
At the halfway stage, Tuukka Taponen led the timesheets ahead of Noah Strømsted and Alessandro Giusti, with the benchmark lowered to 1:21.775.
Van Amersfoort Racing opted for an alternative strategy, sending all three of its drivers out later to give them a clear track for their qualifying runs. The approach paid off for Hiyu Yamakoshi, who jumped to the top of the timesheets with a 1:21.730.
Although the field improved on their final attempts, none could better Yamakoshi’s earlier lap, securing him pole position. Ugo Ugochukwu qualified second for Campos Racing, while Taponen completed the top three for MP Motorsport.
