Round 8 of the 2026 FIA Formula 2 (F2) season got underway at the Belgian GP, with the Spa-Francorchamps weekend beginning with Free Practice.

FIA Formula 2 drivers began the sole Free Practice session on the yellow-marked Medium tyres, with the purple-walled Supersoft compound set to be introduced for Qualifying later in the day.

Invicta Racing’s Rafael Câmara initially set the pace with a 2:00.057, before Roman Bilinski moved to the top of the timing screens with a 2:00.015.

The Rodin Motorsport driver held a 0.017-second advantage over teammate Dino Beganovic before lowering his benchmark further to a 1:59.261, extending his advantage at the top of the order to 0.278 seconds.

However, the order continued to change as more drivers completed their flying laps. Tsolov then moved to the front with a 1:58.927, leading Martinius Stenshorne by two-tenths of a second with 20 minutes remaining.

Track limits also became a factor during the session, with several drivers pushing the limits around the challenging Spa-Francorchamps layout and having lap times deleted for violations.

Dunne had briefly moved into second place, but his lap time was subsequently deleted for a track limits violation.

With four minutes remaining in the session, Nico Varrone went off track at Turn 14 and hit the barriers, bringing out a red flag and ending Free Practice early.

At the conclusion of the session, Tsolov remained at the top of the order to finish P1, with Stenshorne in second and Varrone classified third.
