Except for a sole free practice session, topped by current championship leader Kimi Antonelli, George Russell had dominated the weekend so far. The Mercedes Brit finished first in Sprint Qualifying on Friday and crossed the checkered flag up front earlier on Saturday in the Sprint Race.
By the end of the 24-lap race, very few positions changed as the top 8 was completed by Leclerc, Norris, Antonelli, Piastri, Verstappen, Hamilton, and Gasly. Afterwards, the drivers’ championship was still led by Antonelli with 224 points, Hamilton in P2 with 171, and Russell third with 168.
Later on Saturday, cars returned to the track for a final Qualifying session around Zandvoort, as the track leaves the F1 calendar after the 2026 season.
Ferrari’s Hamilton locked up and went off into the grass in Q1, but still got into Q2. An unsafe release from Alpine’s Gasly was set to be investigated after the session. As Piastri topped in Q1, the bottom six were Sainz, Alonso, Stroll, Bearman, Bottas, and Perez. In Q2, Hamilton locked up again, and Russell followed his lead. Norris set the fastest time as the six eliminated were Gasly, Tsunoda, Hulkenberg, Colapinto, Ocon, and Albon.
Finally, as teams rushed out to track due to expected rain in the final minutes of Q3, Lando Norris took pole with time to spare.
