Free Practice was cut short as a big crash for Colton Herta out of Lesmo 2 significantly damaged his car and the barrier he hit. Big repairs were required to fix it. To cap a miserable start to Friday, the American’s Cadillac then broke down as he made another F1 FP1 appearance in 2026.

In the truncated session, Irish and Rodin Motorsport driver Alex Dunne was fastest, ahead of Ollie Goethe and Nico Varrone. Championship leader Nikola Tsolov was 4th, with title contenders Câmara and Minì down in P9 and P14 respectively.

Heading into qualifying, the Bulgarian leads the standings by 20 points from the Italian, with the Brazilian driver a further two back. Dunne is the only other driver above 100 points but is a full 59 adrift of Tsolov.

Noel León, winner of the Feature Race last time out in Hungary, is fifth in the points, six clear of Kush Maini.
