Invicta Racing’s Rafael Câmara claimed his fifth F2 pole position of the season and led a one-two finish for the team during Qualifying at the 2026 Italian GP, full report below.
The opening session of the weekend saw Hitech’s Colton Herta hit the barriers and sustain significant damage to his car, triggering a red flag that brought the session to an early end. However, it was Alex Dunne who set the pace in Free Practice with a 1:31.957, while Oliver Goethe and Nicolás Varrone rounded out the top three.
Time for F2 Qualifying at Monza!
The opening stages of qualifying remained quiet as drivers and teams opted to remain in the pits. Six minutes into the session, Dunne led a queue of drivers out on track with Cian Shields following behind. The entire grid headed out onto the 5.793 km circuit for an out lap before returning to the pits.
The first driver to embark on a push lap was Dunne. However, locking up and running across the Ascari chicane, the Irishman was forced to back out of his lap. Further up the road, Rafael Câmara’s first effort saw the Brazilian set an early benchmark with a 1:31.900.
Behind Câmara, Noel León displaced him at the top with a 1:31.878. But it was not long before Joshua Dürksen managed to lower the benchmark with a 1:31.701. After finishing Free Practice in P2, Goethe’s first lap was enough to momentarily slot into P4, before championship leader Nikola Tsolov pushed him down with a 1:31.797.
However, after locking up on his first attempt, a 1:31.779 from Dunne was enough for P4. As it stood, Câmara, León and Dürksen, Dunne and Tsolov rounded out the top five.
Final shootout for pole
The track fell quiet as drivers and teams prepared for their final runs of the session. Laurens van Hoepen and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak were among several drivers who had their lap times deleted. With five minutes left on the clock, drivers headed back out on track as the field jostled for position.
While most drivers drove through the pit lane, several opted to remain out on track. As a result, Mari Boya found himself at the front of the queue. However, jumping ahead of the queue, Bilinski weaved his way through before setting off on his final lap.
Racing across the line, Martinius Stenshorne catapulted into P3 with a 1:31.675, while Dunne slotted into P2 with a 1:31.471. However, locking out the front row for Sunday’s Feature Race, Câmara claimed his fifth pole position of the season, with Dürksen improving on his last lap to slot into P2 to complete an Invicta one-two.
