2026 International GT Open | Round 6 – Hockenheim | Emson and Lebbon extend championship lead with fifth victory

The 2026 International GT Open season continued at Hockenheim for Round 6, where Scuderia Villorba Corse finally converted its pace into victory on Saturday before Tom Emson and Tom Lebbon mastered a chaotic wet Sunday race to strengthen their championship advantage.

Elite Motorsport with Entire Race Engineering’s Emson and Lebbon arrived in Germany only six points clear of Team Motopark’s Christian Mansell and Maximilian Götz after their Paul Ricard Race 2 victory kept them narrowly ahead at the end of Round 5. The wider title fight remained similarly close, with ZRS Motorsport’s Pietro Armanni and Alex Fontana 22 points from the leaders and Greystone GT’s Zac Meakin another four behind as Hockenheim opened the decisive final three-round stretch of the season.

Saturday initially tightened the championship further. Leonardo Moncini converted his maiden pole into a breakthrough victory alongside Rodrigo Testa, while Meakin and Dean Macdonald finished second and Armanni and Fontana inherited third after a penalty for AF Corse. Emson and Lebbon could manage only sixth, while Mansell and Götz finished eighth. Sunday then transformed the picture again as variable rain, two Safety Cars and strategic tyre decisions produced an unpredictable second race, but Emson and Lebbon emerged with their fifth win of 2026 and increased their championship lead to 23 points.

2026 International GT Open: Hockenheim: Free Practice sessions

Dry late-summer conditions greeted the 25-car field on Friday, with Ferrari machinery setting the outright pace across the two sessions. Rafael Durán and Tommaso Mosca established the fastest lap of the day during Free Practice 1, taking the #51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO around Hockenheim in 1:38.824. Emson and Lebbon followed only 0.149 seconds behind, while Alexander Schwarzer and Alexander Fach put the #11 Fach Auto Tech Porsche third overall and first in Pro-Am.

Doublett Racing made an encouraging start to its debut weekend as Leonardo Colavita and Gilles Renmans placed fourth, ahead of the Scuderia Villorba Corse Lamborghini. Seweryn Mazur was sixth overall and quickest in Am for Sendom Racing Team, while Mansell and Götz began the weekend ninth. Armanni and Fontana were 10th as all three leading championship crews remained within one second of the benchmark.

Emson and Lebbon moved to the front during Free Practice 2, posting a 1:38.925 before the session was shortened by a lengthy stoppage to repair a loose kerb. Fach and Schwarzer again showed strong Pro-Am pace in second overall, only 0.278s behind, while Andrey Borodin and Oliver Webb placed their Greystone GT McLaren third. Stanislaw Jedliński and Krystian Korzeniowski led Am in fifth overall.

2026 International GT Open: Hockenheim: Qualifying 1

Moncini delivered one of the weekend’s early surprises by securing both his and Scuderia Villorba Corse’s maiden GT Open pole. The Italian produced a 1:37.189 in the #63 Lamborghini before a late red flag interrupted the final minutes when Lorenzo Ferrari became stranded in the gravel. Although Qualifying 1 resumed with three-and-a-half minutes remaining, heavy traffic prevented anyone from improving sufficiently to displace Moncini.

Greystone GT occupied the next two places as Meakin qualified 0.364s behind and Cresswell took third. Armanni placed the ZRS Porsche fourth, while championship leader Emson and closest rival Mansell lined up fifth and sixth respectively. The result left the primary title contenders grouped together immediately behind three cars with little to lose in the championship fight.

Monegro Reyes put the #12 Fach Auto Tech Porsche eighth overall and led Am, while Blanchemain was ninth and fastest in Pro-Am for Saintéloc Racing.

2026 International GT Open: Hockenheim: Race 1

Moncini converted pole into the lead immediately when Race 1 began, keeping Macdonald behind as Lebbon moved into third. Armanni followed in fourth, while Mansell worked his way ahead of Cresswell during the opening phase. Moncini initially opened a small advantage, but the field compressed after Marcelo Hahn stopped on circuit and triggered the Safety Car.

The Lamborghini remained ahead when racing resumed on Lap 14, and the mandatory pit window opened one lap later. Once the driver changes had cycled through, Testa held approximately six seconds over Meakin, while Veselaho initially sat third. Mosca subsequently charged through the group and emerged as Meakin’s closest challenger, while Fontana also climbed back towards the podium places.

Testa remained composed at the front and gradually rebuilt the advantage as Meakin focused on defending from Mosca. The #63 Lamborghini ultimately completed a lights-to-flag victory that gave Moncini, Testa and Villorba Corse their first win of the season, 13.196s clear of the Greystone GT McLaren. The result also marked the team’s first GT Open victory since 2015 and the first series win for a Huracán in two years.

Mosca crossed the line third, but a five-second penalty for earlier contact dropped the #51 AF Corse Ferrari to fourth. Armanni and Fontana were consequently promoted onto the podium, while Cresswell and Geppert finished fifth. Emson and Lebbon took sixth, only 0.370s behind the second Greystone McLaren, while Mansell and Götz finished eighth.

The Pro-Am contest remained open until the final laps, with Mettler eventually overcoming Salaquarda to give himself and Müller their first class victory of 2026 in the #54 CBRX by SPS Mercedes-AMG. Monegro Reyes and Wolf secured the Am win in 17th overall for Fach Auto Tech.

2026 International GT Open: Hockenheim: Qualifying 2

Fontana responded on Sunday morning by taking his second pole of the season. The Swiss driver’s first representative flying lap proved enough, with his 1:36.841 placing ZRS Motorsport at the head of the field despite sustained pressure from Emson. The championship leader ultimately finished only 0.140s behind and secured the outside of the front row.

Blackthorn produced another strong qualifying performance as Adam put the Pro-Am Aston Martin third overall, while Fach joined him on the second row. Mosca qualified fifth for AF Corse and Götz sixth, giving four different manufacturers representation inside the first three rows. The Sunday qualifying result also placed several championship protagonists in very different starting positions: Meakin was only 14th, while Race 1 winner Testa qualified ninth.

Osman led the Am field from 12th overall in the #16 AF Corse Ferrari.

2026 International GT Open: Hockenheim: Race 2

Sunday’s race began dramatically before the weather had fully taken control. Emson launched strongly from the outside of the front row and challenged Fontana into Turn 1, where contact sent the pole-sitting Porsche spinning off the circuit. Fontana rejoined near the back while Emson continued in the lead. Almost simultaneously, the first drops of rain began to fall, creating different grip levels around the circuit.

Emson initially led Fach, Mosca and Götz, but conditions became increasingly difficult as the rain strengthened in some sectors while others remained comparatively dry. Mosca inherited first when Emson ran wide on Lap 10, while several cars struggled to stay on the circuit. Adrian Lewandowski and Monegro Reyes both hit the barriers before officials introduced Full Course Yellow conditions ahead of the pit window.

The mandatory stops created another strategic decision as teams chose whether to switch to wet tyres. Once the window closed and racing eventually resumed, Lebbon quickly overtook Durán to reclaim the lead for Elite Motorsport. Cresswell ran third, while Macdonald had worked his way into the leading group from 14th on the grid.

Racing was interrupted again when Hahn, still running on slicks, hit the wall and triggered another Safety Car. Despite the repeated resets and constantly changing rain, Lebbon remained in control once the race resumed and completed a fifth victory of the season for the #17 Elite Motorsport Ferrari. He and Emson finished 5.889s clear of Cresswell and Geppert, while Meakin and Macdonald completed an all-British overall podium in the second Greystone McLaren.

The result proved particularly important for the championship because Elite Motorsport’s main rivals struggled. Armanni and Fontana recovered only to ninth after the opening-lap spin, while Mansell and Götz finished 18th. Meakin and Macdonald were therefore the only leading challengers to significantly limit the damage.

Saintéloc Racing also enjoyed its breakthrough weekend as Blanchemain and Pla finished fourth overall and claimed their maiden Pro-Am victory. Fach and Schwarzer followed in second in class, while Track Focused took third. Förch Racing by Atlas Ward converted its three-round programme ahead of a planned 2027 GT Open campaign into immediate success as Dwernicki and Magdziarz won Am on only the team’s first weekend of the year.

Emson and Lebbon emerged from Hockenheim with considerably more breathing room than they had possessed on arrival. Their sixth place on Saturday added five points before Sunday’s victory contributed another 15, taking them from 102 to 122 and expanding their championship advantage from six to 23. The British pair have now won five of the season’s 11 races and head towards Monza in their strongest championship position since before Paul Ricard.

Mansell and Götz remain second on 99, but their difficult Hockenheim weekend allowed the group immediately behind to close substantially. Meakin scored 22 points across the two races and moved to 98, only one behind the Team Motopark pairing, while Macdonald sits fourth with 93 after missing Paul Ricard. Armanni and Fontana follow another point back on 92 after combining Saturday’s podium with only two points on Sunday.

Villorba Corse’s breakthrough moved Moncini and Testa to 64 and sixth in the overall standings. Durán follows on 41, one ahead of Veselaho, while Fach sits ninth overall with 38 despite competing in Pro-Am.

Pro-Am Championship

Fach retained the Pro-Am lead despite failing to score in Race 1. His second-place class finish on Sunday moved him to 72 points, but Bateman remains only four behind on 68 after another consistent weekend with Blackthorn. Basz and Marcin Jedliński sit third on 58, while Salaquarda and Milota follow on 54.

Schwarzer’s Sunday podium increased his total to 52, while Blanchemain and Pla’s maiden win moved both drivers to 41. The class therefore remains wide open with Monza and Barcelona still to run.

Am Championship

Adrian Lewandowski continues to lead Am with 82 points, but his advantage has narrowed considerably. Monegro Reyes’ Saturday victory and third place on Sunday moved him to 72, reducing the deficit to only 10 points. Andrzej Lewandowski remains third on 62 despite missing Hockenheim, while Hahn and Osman follow on 59.

Magdziarz’s victory with Dwernicki increased his season total to 40 and moved him to fifth, while the result immediately placed Dwernicki on 13 points from his debut weekend.

Teams’ Championship

Greystone GT produced the biggest change in the Teams’ standings. Saturday’s second place and Sunday’s double podium lifted the British operation to 79 points, allowing it to move from third into the championship lead. Elite Motorsport follows only one point behind after Emson and Lebbon’s Race 2 victory, while Team Motopark drops from first to third on 68.

ZRS Motorsport remains fourth on 55, while AF Corse and Scuderia Villorba Corse are tied on 33. The German weekend therefore transformed a two-team fight after Paul Ricard into an even closer contest between Greystone and Elite, with Motopark still within reach.

Emson and Lebbon leave Hockenheim in control

Hockenheim had looked capable of compressing the championship considerably after Race 1. Meakin and Macdonald finished second, Armanni and Fontana took third, and the championship-leading Ferrari managed only sixth, while the four-way title fight that had defined the build-up to the weekend appeared increasingly open.

Sunday changed that trajectory. Emson and Lebbon made the most of the difficult conditions while Mansell and Götz and Armanni and Fontana struggled, turning a six-point championship advantage into 23. Yet the fight immediately behind them has become even tighter, with only seven points separating Mansell and Götz in second from Armanni and Fontana in fifth.

Greystone GT’s rise to the Teams’ Championship lead adds another layer before the series heads to Monza. Emson and Lebbon now possess the strongest position in the Drivers’ standings, but Meakin has moved to within one point of second, Macdonald remains close behind and ZRS Motorsport is still firmly involved.

After Paul Ricard left just six points between the leading two crews, Hockenheim has given Elite Motorsport significantly more breathing room without settling the wider championship battle. With Monza and Barcelona still to come, the pressure has shifted firmly onto the chasing group to respond.
