Ferrari Driver Academy junior Rafael Câmara will make the step up to F1 with Haas in 2027, where he will partner Ollie Bearman at the American outfit. A multi-year deal has been agreed.

The 21-year-old steps up to the pinnacle of motorsport after building an impressive resume and a strong record of success throughout his junior career, with consecutive single-seater titles to his name in FREC and Formula 3.

In 2026, the Brazilian arrived in the Formula 2 championship as the reigning Formula 3 Champion and a highly regarded prospect following an impressive rise through the junior categories. Since making his single-seater debut in 2022, Câmara has finished inside the top three in every championship campaign except one, placing fifth in his rookie Formula Regional European Championship season, which Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli won before making the step up to Formula 2 the following year.

The Brazilian will join Bearman, a familiar face through their shared Ferrari Driver Academy connections, with the pair set to form one of the youngest driver line-ups on the grid for the 2027 season.

Another monumental year in single-seaters for Câmara

The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the standout performers of the 2026 Formula 2 season, consistently running at the front of the field since the opening round in Melbourne.

After joining Invicta Racing following a record-breaking Formula 3 campaign with TRIDENT, Câmara secured a podium in the Melbourne Feature Race on his debut weekend and has since added three more podiums and three Feature Race victories to his tally. His exceptional one-lap pace has also played a major role in establishing him as a consistent frontrunner, with the Brazilian claiming five pole positions so far this season. He leads Nikola Tsolov by seven points in the championship with Qatar and Abu Dhabi remaining.

Although the Brazilian has yet to take part in an official FP1 session, Câmara got behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time earlier this year and has since completed several TPC outings with Ferrari. Following in the footsteps of compatriot Gabriel Bortoleto, Câmara’s 2027 arrival marks another significant milestone for Brazil, with the nation set to have two drivers on the F1 grid for the first time since 2016.

Rafael Câmara and Ayao Komatsu react to the Brazilian joining Haas F1 Team for 2027

“I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver,” said the Brazilian.

“It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me. I’m also very grateful to the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy for their support and for everything they have contributed to my development over the years, as well as to my family for always being there throughout this journey.

“Now my focus is on preparing myself in the best possible way for this new challenge. There will be a lot to learn, and I’m looking forward to working closely with the team, understanding the car and continuing to develop as a driver.”

“I’m really excited to sign such a young, amazing talent like Rafael Câmara,” said Ayao Komatsu, Team Principal of Haas F1 Team.

“I don’t need to tell everyone about his achievements in the junior formulas, it’s been very impressive, and in his rookie season in Formula 2, the speed he’s shown in some very difficult moments, like qualifying in Monaco and Montreal – that all goes to show the potential Rafa has.

“He showed when we had him drive in our TPC program in Portugal that he could handle himself very well with not a huge amount of time to learn the car, he showed us more than just raw speed. Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself, it was very impressive and certainly the laps he completed were special.

“We’re all excited about this opportunity and really committed as TGR Haas F1 Team to nurture this talent and provide a place where he can flourish. We want to create an environment where he’s comfortable and supported, where he can really excel in his capabilities.”
