The FIA Formula 3 Championship has unveiled its 2027 calendar, with Jeddah, Montreal and Istanbul joining a 10-round schedule across four continents.

Bahrain will open the campaign from 12-14 March before Istanbul Park hosts the season finale from 1-3 October. Meanwhile, Montreal will take Formula 3 to North America for the first time, marking another significant expansion of the championship’s international footprint.

The schedule represents a considerable evolution from the 10-round 2026 FIA F3 calendar, which began in Melbourne and concluded with the inaugural Madrid event. Although Formula 3 retains the same number of rounds for 2027, the addition of Saudi Arabia, Canada and Türkiye creates a considerably broader geographical spread.

Bahrain and Jeddah form opening double-header

Formula 3 will begin the 2027 season at the Bahrain International Circuit from 12-14 March, with the championship joining Formula 1 and Formula 2 in Sakhir. The field will then travel directly to Saudi Arabia for its first visit to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit from 19-21 March.

Jeddah provides the first of three new challenges on the schedule and introduces F3 machinery to one of the fastest street circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. After the opening double-header, the championship will head to Melbourne from 2-4 April, meaning Australia shifts from its position as the 2026 season opener to Round 3.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem believes the expanded schedule will give young drivers valuable experience as they progress through the international single-seater ladder.

“Formula 3 is where many drivers begin to prove themselves on the international stage, and the 2027 calendar will give them an exceptional range of challenges where they can develop their skills. Racing in North America for the first time is an important milestone for the Championship, while the additions of Jeddah and Istanbul will test our drivers across demanding circuits.”

He added: “Providing young talent with these experiences is fundamental to building the future of our sport, and I look forward to watching this next generation rise to the challenge throughout the 2027 season.”

Montreal brings Formula 3 to North America

Montreal will host Round 4 from 20-23 May, subject to contract, and take FIA F3 to North America for the first time. The Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve adds another street-style venue to the championship while giving the drivers experience at a circuit long established on the Formula 1 schedule.

The historic addition follows a closely fought 2026 campaign in which Ugo Ugochukwu became the first American FIA F3 champion. He completed a 15-point comeback at Madrid and secured the title during the season-ending Feature Race.

Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali expects the championship to build on that momentum as another generation of drivers moves through the junior categories.

“We have seen great racing in Formula 3 in 2026, including an incredible fight for the title, which ultimately went to the first ever American driver to win the Championship, and the 2027 season is set to build on that momentum with another exciting generation of young talent coming through the motorsport pyramid.”

Domenicali also highlighted Formula 3’s role in preparing drivers for the demands of the higher levels of single-seater racing.

“Racing alongside Formula 1 is a unique opportunity for these drivers to develop their skills, showcase their potential and prepare themselves for the demands of the highest level of our sport. The 2027 calendar marks an exciting step for Formula 3, with the Championship visiting four continents and introducing new venues that will provide fresh challenges for drivers and teams alike.”

Monaco begins European stretch

The championship will begin its European run at Monaco from 3-6 June, returning to one of the most demanding venues on the calendar. Qualifying and track position remain particularly important around Monte-Carlo, where overtaking opportunities are limited and mistakes carry a greater penalty than at most permanent circuits.

The 2026 weekend demonstrated that challenge when Brando Badoer beat polesitter Théophile Naël at the start before controlling the Monaco Feature Race to take victory.

Formula 3 will then contest consecutive rounds in July, beginning at Silverstone from 2-4 July before travelling to Spielberg one week later. Both venues remain on the schedule from 2026 and provide a more familiar middle portion of the campaign following the opening flyaway rounds and Montreal debut.

Silverstone played a significant role in the previous title battle, with Ugochukwu’s record-breaking weekend in Britain strengthening a championship challenge that eventually culminated in Madrid.

Monza and Madrid begin final title run

Following the summer break, Formula 3 will return at Monza from 3-5 September before travelling directly to Madrid for Round 9 from 10-12 September. The back-to-back events begin the final phase of the championship before the field heads to Türkiye.

Madrid moves from its position as the 2026 finale to the penultimate round. Its inaugural FIA F3 weekend featured an expanded format, with an additional qualifying session and second Feature Race increasing the points available during the title decider. The championship also introduced a MADRING test and revised finale format ahead of the circuit’s debut.

The Spanish event ultimately decided both championships. Campos Racing secured the Teams’ title during Feature Race 1, before Ugochukwu finished second to Tuukka Taponen in the final race to complete his comeback against Freddie Slater and claim the Drivers’ Championship.

Madrid will play a different role in 2027, serving as the final established venue before the championship heads to an entirely new circuit for its title decider.

Istanbul Park to host 2027 Formula 3 finale

Istanbul Park will host the 2027 season finale from 1-3 October, subject to FIA circuit homologation. The Turkish venue becomes the third new addition to the schedule and replaces Madrid as the location where the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships could ultimately be decided.

Its introduction gives teams and drivers another unfamiliar challenge at the most important stage of the season. Should either title remain open after Madrid, the championship contenders will need to adapt quickly to a circuit that FIA F3 has never previously visited.

FIA Formula 3 CEO Bruno Michel welcomed the three additions and highlighted the importance of bringing the championship into new markets without increasing the financial burden on teams.

“The 2027 FIA Formula 3 calendar is groundbreaking, with three new venues that represent a formidable challenge for the teams and the drivers. It will be very exciting to see the F3 cars at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, and I’m extremely pleased to bring F3 to North America for the very first time thanks to the addition of Montreal to the calendar.”

Formula 3 will also cover the additional freight costs created by its greater geographical reach, following the approach adopted by Formula 2.

“Istanbul Park will host the season finale, another new challenge next season. Just like for F2, we will be covering freight costs so that the territorial expansion of the calendar does not financially impact our teams.”

Three new venues reshape 2027 Formula 3 campaign

Formula 3 retains its 10-round format for 2027, but the addition of Jeddah, Montreal and Istanbul significantly changes the character of the championship. The opening phase now includes Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia before the series makes its historic North American debut, while the established European rounds occupy the middle of the campaign.

The greatest change comes at the beginning and end of the season. Jeddah introduces an unfamiliar street circuit during the opening double-header, while Istanbul places another new venue at the heart of the championship decider.

After the 2026 title fight ended with Ugochukwu completing his Madrid comeback, the 2027 field will face an even broader test as Formula 3 combines established circuits with three new additions across four continents.
