Campos Racing has confirmed Colombian driver Salim Hanna as its first signing for the 2027 FIA F3 Championship, with the 16-year-old joining the reigning Teams’ and Drivers’ champions following a successful progression through Formula 4 and Formula Regional.

The Ferrari Driver Academy member will join the Alzira-based outfit after a competitive 2026 campaign across the Formula Regional European Championship (FREC) and Formula Regional Middle East Trophy. Hanna secured victories in both championships, building on a successful Formula 4 season in which he claimed three wins and nine podium finishes.

His arrival strengthens Campos Racing’s preparations for 2027 as the Spanish team looks to extend its remarkable recent success. Having secured consecutive Teams’ Championships in 2025 and 2026, alongside the 2026 Drivers’ title with Ugo Ugochukwu, Campos will enter the new campaign seeking a third successive Teams’ crown.

Although Hanna will contest his first full FIA F3 season in 2027, he already has experience in the championship after making selected appearances with AIX Racing during 2026. The opportunity to join Campos will now provide him with a full-time seat as he continues progressing through the junior single-seater categories.

Campos Racing confirms Hanna for 2027 F3 campaign

Hanna becomes the first driver confirmed for Campos Racing’s 2027 FIA F3 line-up, joining an operation that has established itself as the championship’s leading team over the previous two seasons.

The Spanish outfit secured its maiden Teams’ Championship in 2025, defeating Trident after a closely contested campaign. Nikola Tsolov, Mari Boya and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak contributed to the success, with Campos demonstrating particularly strong pace during the second half of the season.

The team subsequently strengthened its position in 2026, securing a second consecutive Teams’ title before Ugochukwu completed the championship double at Madrid. His victory in the Drivers’ Championship marked another significant achievement for Campos, which concluded the year with 334 points, comfortably ahead of Trident.

Hanna will now join the team as it attempts to maintain that momentum against an increasingly competitive F3 field. Campos Team Principal Adrián Campos welcomed the Colombian, highlighting his progression through the junior categories and the team’s ambitions for the upcoming campaign.

“I want to welcome Salim to our team. We are very happy to have a driver like him with us for next season. He is a young talent with a very interesting career so far and has shown consistent progress since starting his single-seater career. We want to repeat the results we have achieved over the last two seasons in FIA F3, and I am convinced that Salim has great potential. We hope to help him have a successful season, continue to develop his talent, and take the next step in his career with us.”

Hanna builds strong foundation through karting success

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, Hanna began his motorsport career at just seven years old, developing his skills through karting before progressing into international competition.

His early results demonstrated his potential, including a third-place finish in the KA100 Junior category at the 2021 SKUSA SuperNationals. The achievement provided an early indication of his competitiveness against established junior karting drivers and helped establish the foundations for his subsequent development.

Hanna progressed into the OK-Junior category in 2022, securing victories in two prestigious competitions. He won both the Trofeo delle Industrie and WSK Open Cup, adding significant international achievements to his racing record.

The Colombian subsequently continued competing in karting through 2024, gaining further experience across different European circuits and championships. His progression eventually led to opportunities in single-seater machinery, where he began preparing for the next stage of his career.

After several seasons of international karting, Hanna made his car racing debut during the closing stages of 2024. He entered the Formula Trophy in the United Arab Emirates, immediately demonstrating promising pace with a fourth-place finish on his first appearance.

The result provided an encouraging introduction to single-seaters and prepared him for a significantly more extensive racing programme in 2025.

Formula 4 success accelerates Hanna’s progression

Hanna committed fully to single-seater racing in 2025, competing across the Italian and British Formula 4 championships as he continued adapting to the demands of car racing.

The Colombian joined PREMA Racing for his Formula 4 programme, continuing a relationship that had begun during his karting career. The Italian outfit provided him with an opportunity to compete against several highly rated junior drivers while developing his technical understanding and racecraft.

Across his 2025 campaigns, Hanna collected three victories and nine podium finishes, demonstrating his ability to challenge near the front despite his limited experience in single-seaters. His performances included several competitive weekends in Italian F4, where he finished fourth in the Drivers’ Championship.

He also gained valuable experience in British F4, competing at circuits with different characteristics and learning to adapt to unfamiliar racing conditions.

Hanna’s results earned him recognition as one of the promising drivers progressing through the junior categories. His move into Formula Regional with PREMA for 2026 followed that successful rookie campaign, allowing him to continue developing within the Italian team’s single-seater programme.

The transition marked another important step towards FIA F3, introducing more powerful machinery and a higher level of competition.

Formula Regional victories highlight strong 2026 campaign

Hanna continued his progression during 2026, competing in both the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy and the FIA Formula Regional European Championship.

The Middle Eastern campaign provided an early opportunity to demonstrate his potential in Formula Regional machinery. Racing with Mumbai Falcons Racing, the Colombian secured a victory at Dubai Autodrome during the third round, producing an impressive performance against several established competitors.

He subsequently returned to Europe to compete with PREMA Racing in the inaugural FIA Formula Regional European Championship, which introduced the second-generation Tatuus T-326 car for 2026.

The transition presented another technical challenge, with the updated Formula Regional machinery requiring drivers to adapt to greater aerodynamic performance and more demanding race conditions. Nevertheless, Hanna regularly challenged for points and podium positions throughout the season.

His campaign included a standout performance at Imola in September, where he converted reversed-grid pole position into victory. The Colombian controlled the race from the start, becoming the ninth different winner of the inaugural FIA FREC season.

The Imola victory reinforced his progress after several competitive weekends and demonstrated his ability to manage a race from the front.

Across his Middle Eastern and European Formula Regional campaigns, Hanna accumulated seven victories and podium finishes combined, strengthening his credentials for a full-time promotion to FIA F3.

Previous FIA F3 appearances provide valuable experience

Although Hanna will begin his first full FIA Formula 3 campaign in 2027, the Colombian already has experience with the championship’s current machinery.

He made his FIA F3 debut at the Austrian Grand Prix in June 2026, joining AIX Racing as a substitute for Brad Benavides. The American driver was recovering from an injury sustained during the Monaco weekend, creating an opportunity for Hanna to step into the team’s #26 car at the Red Bull Ring.

His participation represented a significant step beyond Formula Regional, giving him an opportunity to experience the Dallara F3 2025 and compete against the championship’s established drivers.

Hanna subsequently returned for further appearances with AIX Racing during the season, including the Hungarian Grand Prix. Although he did not score points, the experience exposed him to the championship’s qualifying format, tyre management demands and competitive race environment.

His previous appearances could prove valuable when he joins Campos Racing, particularly because the 2027 season will continue using the same generation of Formula 3 machinery.

Rather than approaching the championship without any direct experience, Hanna will arrive having already completed competitive F3 weekends. His familiarity with the car and sporting procedures should help him focus on developing his pace and consistency as he prepares for a full campaign.

Hanna welcomes opportunity with reigning champions

Hanna expressed his excitement about joining Campos Racing, highlighting the positive relationship he has already developed with the team.

The 16-year-old will enter 2027 with considerable momentum after progressing through Formula 4 and Formula Regional, while his Ferrari Driver Academy involvement adds another dimension to his development.

Joining the reigning champions also presents significant expectations, particularly after Campos secured both major titles in 2026. However, Hanna believes the team’s environment will provide opportunities to improve and challenge for competitive results.

“I’m very happy and grateful to be part of this incredible team and family. From day one, I’ve felt so comfortable and welcomed, and I’m really looking forward to learn and improve day by day. I know we have a strong team, and I hope we can fight at the front and achieve great things together next year!”

His comments reflect a desire to continue learning while contributing to Campos Racing’s championship ambitions. Although his previous F3 appearances should help with the transition, a full season will introduce additional demands, including maintaining consistency across ten rounds and adapting to different circuit characteristics.

With Campos providing an established technical and operational structure, Hanna will aim to build on the experience he has already accumulated in international single-seater racing.

Ferrari Driver Academy connection strengthens development pathway

Hanna’s progression into FIA F3 also represents another step in his development as a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.

The Italian manufacturer’s junior programme supports promising drivers as they progress through the single-seater ladder, providing opportunities to develop their technical understanding, physical preparation and professional approach to racing.

His involvement follows a successful period in Formula 4 and Formula Regional, where his performances demonstrated the consistency and competitiveness required to move towards higher categories.

Campos Racing will now play an important role in that progression, providing Hanna with an opportunity to compete in a championship that has served as a stepping stone towards FIA Formula 2 and Formula 1.

The Spanish outfit has considerable experience developing young drivers, with several former Campos competitors progressing into higher categories after successful F3 campaigns.

Recent examples include Tsolov, Boya and Inthraphuvasak, who all advanced to FIA F2 following their involvement in Campos Racing’s 2025 Teams’ Championship success.

For Hanna, the immediate objective will be to establish himself as a competitive FIA F3 driver while continuing to benefit from the support of Ferrari’s development programme.

Hanna prepares for expanded 2027 FIA F3 calendar

Hanna’s first full season will take place during a significant year for FIA Formula 3, with the championship introducing several new venues as part of its continued international expansion.

The 2027 FIA Formula 3 calendar will feature ten rounds across four continents, beginning at the Bahrain International Circuit from 12–14 March. The championship will then travel to Jeddah before heading to Melbourne, introducing a demanding opening sequence.

Montreal will also join the calendar, subject to contract, bringing FIA F3 to North America for the first time. Meanwhile, Istanbul Park will host the season finale from 1–3 October, subject to FIA circuit homologation.

The revised schedule will challenge drivers with a combination of traditional European circuits and unfamiliar international venues. As a result, Hanna and the other competitors will need to adapt quickly to different track layouts and conditions, particularly given the limited practice time available during F3 race weekends.

Campos Racing will enter the campaign aiming to defend its Teams’ Championship for a third consecutive season, while Hanna will look to contribute to that objective and establish himself among the leading drivers.

The team has not yet confirmed its remaining two drivers for 2027, with further announcements expected as preparations for the new season continue.

For Hanna, the move represents the next major step in a career that has progressed rapidly through karting, Formula 4 and Formula Regional. With previous FIA F3 experience, support from the Ferrari Driver Academy and a place at the reigning championship-winning team, the Colombian will aim to turn his recent development into a strong first full season in 2027.
