Porsche has confirmed that Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller will remain with the team for the 2026/27 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, retaining their successful driver pairing as the series enters its GEN4 era. The German manufacturer has opted for continuity following a successful 2025/26 campaign, which saw Wehrlein secure his second Drivers’ World Championship and Müller claim his maiden Formula E victory.
With both drivers already familiar with Porsche’s operations and development programme, the team will look to build on its recent achievements as Formula E introduces its next generation of electric racing cars.
Wehrlein continues with Porsche following second world title
Wehrlein will remain with Porsche for another season after securing his second Formula E Drivers’ World Championship in 2025/26. The German driver, who joined the manufacturer ahead of Season 7, has played a significant role in Porsche’s success in the all-electric championship.
During the 2025/26 season, Wehrlein claimed three E-Prix victories and six podium finishes, demonstrating the consistency that ultimately helped him secure another world title. His latest championship success followed his first title in the 2023/24 season, further establishing him as one of Formula E’s leading competitors. By retaining Wehrlein, Porsche will enter the GEN4 era with an experienced driver who has already demonstrated his ability to compete for championships with the team.
Müller remains after breakthrough season
Müller will also continue with Porsche following an impressive first season with the manufacturer’s factory Formula E team. The Swiss driver joined Porsche’s works outfit for the 2025/26 campaign after previously competing with customer team Andretti. Müller quickly established himself as a valuable addition to the team, delivering several strong performances throughout the season.
He secured second place at the Miami E-Prix before claiming his maiden Formula E victory at the Berlin E-Prix, giving Porsche a memorable win on home soil. His performances helped strengthen Porsche’s championship campaign alongside Wehrlein and demonstrated his ability to compete at the front of the field. With a full season of experience in the factory team, Müller will now look to build on his achievements as Porsche prepares for the technical changes arriving in 2026/27.
Porsche prepare for the introduction of GEN4
Porsche’s decision to retain both drivers comes ahead of one of the most significant technical changes in Formula E’s history. With the introduction of the GEN4 regulations, cars will produce up to 600 kW in ATTACK MODE, representing a substantial increase over the current GEN3 Evo machinery. Permanent all-wheel drive, improved aerodynamics and significantly greater performance will further transform the next generation of Formula E cars.
GEN4 machinery is expected to reach speeds exceeding 335 km/h, accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 1.8 seconds and reach 200 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Formula E also expects the new generation of cars to deliver qualifying lap times approximately 10 seconds faster than those of the original GEN3 machinery. The increased performance will present teams and drivers with new challenges as they adapt to the characteristics of the cars.
For Porsche, retaining Wehrlein and Müller provides stability during this transition. Both drivers have already participated in the manufacturer’s GEN4 development programme, giving them valuable experience with the new machinery ahead of its competitive debut.
Porsche aim to continue championship success
Porsche will enter the 2026/27 Formula E season determined to maintain its position among the championship’s leading manufacturers. The team’s decision to retain its existing line-up reflects its confidence in Wehrlein and Müller following their achievements during the previous campaign.
With Wehrlein bringing championship-winning experience and Müller having established himself as an E-Prix winner, Porsche will have two proven competitors behind the wheel as the series enters a new technical era. The 2026/27 Formula E season is scheduled to begin in Jeddah on 18 December 2026, marking the competitive debut of the GEN4 regulations.
Both drivers will aim to carry Porsche’s recent success into the new season as the manufacturer looks to defend its world championship titles.
