A new piece of the Formula E 2026/27 grid slots into place, as two times E-Prix winner Dan Ticktum confirms he will make his Gen4 debut with newcomer team Fortescue Zero. The new outlet, which has bought out DS Penske’s license, will make its first ever official outing in the upcoming testing session, set to take place on November 16th to 20th in Madrid.

A new player on the electric grid

The outlet, sponsored by an Australian energy provider and closely related to Williams Racing, will closely work with factory team Jaguar Racing, ensuring a high level of performance from its early days.

The home of the 2026 Madrid E-Prix and of the 2024 pre-season testing will also mark the first time Ticktum will be officially docked in the social colours of Fortescue, in bright green and black. The British driver will bring to the new entry his long-standing electric experience.

In fact, the former Red Bull Academy talent began his Formula E journey five years ago, back in 2021/22. In his rookie season he had joined NIO, scoring just one point as he struggled to get to grips with his feisty challenger.

Returning for a sophomore season with the Chinese team, Ticktum’s confidence and electric experience further improved, as he ended almost half of his seasonal outings in the top ten. While the experience under ERT was not incredibly successful, also due to financial constraints, his talent truly emerged during the team’s latest rebrand into Kiro Race.

An upturn in Ticktum’s career

In fact, he ran his most performant seasons with the team, securing his first podium finish with his signature aggressive driving style two seasons ago in Tokyo, and afterwards his first race win in Jakarta. However, the latest 2025/26 season saw the relationship between the American-owned team, which had also teamed up with Cupra, and Ticktum significantly worsened.

It was a more complicated year for the Brit, who experienced several retirements due to technical issues or racing incidents. While he missed out on a podium finish in spite of two consecutive pole positions in Monaco, Tokyo had more joy in store for him, with his second race win.

A cheerful announcement

Ticktum is glad to join Fortescue Zero for the upcoming 2026/27 Formula E season, as he commented on the announcement.

”What I love about Fortescue Zero Racing is that they want to do things differently. To get to race and represent Fortescue Zero Racing in its first season is a huge honour. Getting to be part of building a team from scratch is exciting, especially one that’s got a long history of competing and winning.”

“It’s not lost on me the support I’ve received to get here and the faith that has been put in me. I am extremely grateful and cannot wait to repay that belief by working with Jim Wright and the whole team to make the 2026/27 season a huge success.”

Additionally, Fortescue Zero Team Principal Jim Wright praised the importance of Ticktum’s experience, talent and attitude, explaining the reasons behind his signing.

“Dan is a fierce competitor. He’s fast, fearless, a proven race winner in Formula E and not afraid to push boundaries. At Fortescue, challenging the way things have always been done is part of our DNA.”

“We want that hunger in our garage, matched with the discipline and teamwork needed to deliver results. Dan brings experience, strength and a winning personality to the team. Dan has a reputation for being incredibly quick and racing hard. As a new team we have a lot to prove and together we can all show what Fortescue Zero Racing can do.”

Ticktum will team up with reconfirmed Taylor Barnard, who secured his first ever E-Prix win in the London season finale of the past season
