The 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FRAC) heads to Barber Motorsports Park for its eighth and final event weekend, with Brady Golan already crowned Drivers’ Champion but several important championship battles still to be decided.
Golan secured the title during a dramatic penultimate round at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), where he finished second in Race 1 before winning the finale. His championship success ended Evagoras Papasavvas’ hopes of taking the title, although the Crosslink Motorsports driver remains second in the standings ahead of Cooper Shipman and a rapidly closing Kekai Hauanio.
The Teams’ Championship also remains undecided, with Toney Driver Development holding a 14-point advantage over Crosslink Motorsports. Meanwhile, Whitney Strickland and Kevin Janzen will contest the Masters Cup title, separated by just 16.5 points. With two races remaining, Barber will determine the final championship positions and the distribution of the remaining $30,000 in Drivers’ Championship prizes.
2026 FRAC heads to Barber Motorsports Park
Barber Motorsports Park hosts the final FRAC event of the 2026 season from 16–18 October, bringing the championship back to Alabama alongside the F4 U.S. Championship and Ligier Junior Formula Championship.
The 2.38-mile, 17-turn circuit features significant elevation changes, flowing corners and technical braking zones. Its clockwise layout places considerable emphasis on maintaining momentum, while the combination of fast and slow corners requires drivers to balance outright speed with precision.
The circuit has previously produced competitive FRAC racing, with Golan securing victory during the 2025 event. Shipman also has fond memories of Barber, having claimed a podium on his FRAC debut last season before progressing to become one of the leading contenders in 2026.
Unlike the three-race weekends held earlier in the campaign, Barber will feature just two contests, leaving little opportunity to recover from an unsuccessful qualifying session or disappointing opening race.
With the Drivers’ Championship already decided, attention shifts towards the remaining positions and the two other championship titles. However, the competitive order established throughout the season suggests that the final weekend could still produce closely contested battles at the front.
Weekend schedule
FRAC will begin its final weekend with two practice sessions on Friday, followed by qualifying and the opening race on Saturday. Sunday’s second race will conclude the 2026 championship.
All times are local Central Time (CT).
Friday, 16 October
- Practice 1 — 10:20 a.m.
- Practice 2 — 2:55 p.m.
Saturday, 17 October
- Qualifying — 10:25 a.m.
- Autograph Session — 3:15 p.m.
- Feature Race 1 — 4:55 p.m.
Sunday, 18 October
- Feature Race 2 — 12:00 p.m.
The championship will share the weekend with F4 U.S. and Ligier JFC, both of which will also contest their final two races of the season. Fans will have an opportunity to meet drivers from all three championships during Saturday’s Nexgen Autograph Session in the main paddock.
Golan arrives at Barber as newly crowned FRAC champion
Golan enters the final weekend having already secured the 2026 Drivers’ Championship, completing a successful second season with Toney Driver Development.
The 19-year-old Texan arrived at VIR leading Papasavvas by just 10.5 points, but the penultimate event dramatically changed the championship standings. Golan finished second to Hauanio in the opening race before securing victory in Sunday’s finale, while Papasavvas failed to score in either contest.
Golan’s Race 2 victory came following a dramatic one-lap shootout, during which he passed Hauanio into Turn 1 before holding on by just 0.281 seconds. The result increased his championship total to 282 points and established an insurmountable 53.5-point advantage with only 50 remaining.
The victory represented his seventh of the season and secured the $100,000 Drivers’ Championship prize, as detailed in Pit Debrief’s championship standings analysis following VIR.
Although he no longer needs to prioritise championship points, Golan will still have an important role to play at Barber. His performances could determine whether Toney Driver Development completes a championship double, while another victory would further strengthen an already successful season.
Papasavvas looks to secure championship runner-up honours
Papasavvas heads into the finale second in the standings on 228.5 points, with his ambitions now focused on securing the championship runner-up position.
The Crosslink Motorsports driver led the championship for much of the season but endured a difficult closing phase. After losing the lead to Golan at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), he arrived at VIR hoping to reverse the momentum, only for two incidents to end his title challenge.
Contact with Shipman during the opening race left both drivers without points. Papasavvas then appeared capable of recovering in Race 2, passing Golan for second before an incident at Turn 12 brought his weekend to an early conclusion.
His two non-scores allowed Golan to secure the championship, leaving Papasavvas with a 26.5-point advantage over Shipman heading into Barber.
The final circuit does, however, provide a promising reference. Papasavvas competed at Barber in INDY NXT during 2025 and secured his first podium in the category during only his second start. His previous experience at the venue could prove valuable as he attempts to defend second in FRAC.
With $20,000 awarded to the championship runner-up, Papasavvas has a significant incentive to return to the podium while helping Crosslink pursue the Teams’ Championship.
Shipman returns to venue of maiden FRAC podium
Shipman enters Barber third in the Drivers’ Championship on 202 points, leaving him 26.5 behind Papasavvas and 15.5 ahead of Hauanio.
The Kiwi Motorsport driver has enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, securing two victories and establishing himself among the championship’s leading competitors. However, his position in the standings has come under increasing pressure during the final rounds.
Shipman arrived at VIR hoping to maintain his outside championship hopes and qualified second, just 0.134 seconds behind Golan. Contact with Papasavvas in Race 1 subsequently compromised his weekend, although he recovered to finish fifth in Sunday’s contest.
That result allowed him to retain third overall, but Hauanio’s victory and runner-up finish significantly reduced the gap between them.
Barber provides Shipman with another opportunity to draw on previous success. He made his FRAC debut at the circuit in 2025 and immediately secured a podium, demonstrating his ability to compete at the venue before beginning his full championship campaign.
He will now aim to claim his third victory of 2026 while challenging Papasavvas for second. However, with $10,000 awarded to the driver finishing third, protecting his current position will also remain an important consideration.
Hauanio carries momentum into the championship finale
Hauanio arrives at Barber as one of the championship’s strongest late-season performers following an impressive penultimate weekend at VIR.
The Crosslink Motorsports rookie secured his third victory of 2026 in Race 1 after passing Golan during the closing stages. He followed that result with another competitive performance on Sunday, leading most of the race before a late Safety Car eliminated an advantage of more than four seconds.
Golan eventually passed him during the final restart, leaving Hauanio to finish second by just 0.281 seconds. Nevertheless, the two results delivered 43 championship points and dramatically improved his position relative to Shipman.
Hauanio entered VIR 48.5 points behind the Kiwi Motorsport driver but reduced that deficit to just 15.5. His championship total now stands at 186.5, leaving him firmly involved in the battle for third and mathematically capable of moving into second.
His performances will also be important to Crosslink’s Teams’ Championship challenge, particularly given the points awarded to each organisation’s two highest-finishing drivers.
Having recorded eight podium finishes during the campaign, Hauanio will aim to continue his strong form at Barber and end his rookie season with another victory.
Powers and Bogle fight for fifth in FRAC standings
Toney Driver Development teammates Luke Powers and Christian Bogle enter the final event separated by just half a point in the battle for fifth.
Powers currently holds the advantage with 153 points after moving ahead of Bogle during the VIR weekend. The rookie recovered from a difficult opening phase in Race 1 to finish third, recording his fifth podium of the season and collecting another 15 points.
However, his second race proved less successful, allowing Bogle to respond with fourth place and reduce the gap between them.
Bogle sits sixth on 152.5 points, having endured a difficult opening race at VIR before returning to the points on Sunday. Although he remains without a victory during 2026, consistent performances have kept him close to his teammate throughout the campaign.
Both drivers are still mathematically capable of finishing third, although they face considerable deficits to Shipman. Powers trails the Kiwi Motorsport driver by 49 points, while Bogle sits 49.5 behind.
Their immediate battle will therefore centre on fifth, while both will also aim to contribute to Toney Driver Development’s Teams’ Championship challenge.
$30,000 remains available in Drivers’ Championship prizes
Although Golan has already secured the Drivers’ Championship and its $100,000 prize, the final two positions carrying financial rewards remain undecided.
Second place will receive $20,000, while the driver finishing third will earn $10,000. Papasavvas currently occupies the runner-up position, but Shipman and Hauanio remain capable of challenging him during the final weekend.
Powers and Bogle also retain mathematical opportunities to reach the top three, although their deficits mean that both would require an exceptional weekend combined with substantial setbacks for the drivers ahead.
With 50 points remaining across the two races, the battle could change significantly following Saturday’s opening contest. A strong result from Hauanio could place considerable pressure on Shipman, while Papasavvas has the opportunity to make second place secure before Sunday’s finale.
The financial rewards add further importance to these positions, particularly for drivers preparing to progress through the junior single-seater categories.
Barber will therefore determine more than the final championship order, with the remaining $30,000 providing an additional incentive for the leading contenders.
Strickland and Janzen face decisive Masters Cup battle
The Masters Cup title remains undecided heading into the final weekend, with Whitney Strickland holding a 16.5-point advantage over Kevin Janzen.
Strickland leads the standings on 141 points, having built his advantage through consistent performances earlier in the season. However, Janzen has substantially reduced the deficit during the closing rounds, including a perfect weekend at VIR.
The Crosslink Motorsports driver won the Masters classification in both races, collecting the maximum 24 points while Strickland was absent. His championship total increased to 124.5, bringing him back into mathematical contention heading into Barber.
With 24 Masters Cup points still available, Janzen faces a difficult but achievable challenge. He must continue his winning form while relying on Strickland to surrender enough points for the championship advantage to change hands.
Anthony Autiello completes the Masters field and enters the weekend third on 91 points. Although he can no longer challenge the leading pair for their championship positions, the Momentum Motorsports driver will aim to add another class victory to his record.
The contest ensures that, despite the overall Drivers’ title being settled, another individual championship remains directly at stake during the final two races.
Toney Driver Development leads Crosslink by 14 points
The Teams’ Championship remains one of the most closely contested battles heading into the final weekend, with Toney Driver Development holding a 14-point advantage over Crosslink Motorsports.
Toney enters Barber with 538 points, while Crosslink sits second on 524. Remarkably, both organisations collected exactly 70 points during the penultimate weekend at VIR, leaving the gap unchanged.
The two teams have also recorded identical victory totals during the season, with eight race wins apiece. Toney holds a narrow advantage in podium finishes, having secured 22 compared with Crosslink’s 21.
Under the championship regulations, each team’s two highest-finishing drivers contribute towards its Teams’ Championship total in each race. This places considerable importance on the collective performances of the leading drivers, rather than relying on a single competitor.
Toney will look towards Golan, Powers and Bogle to maintain its advantage, with the newly crowned champion particularly well positioned to continue scoring strongly.
Crosslink counters with Papasavvas, Hauanio, Alejandro Bobadilla and Aidan Schuh, all of whom have demonstrated competitive pace during the season. The team’s recent performances have kept its championship hopes alive despite Papasavvas losing the Drivers’ title.
Schuh aims to build on maiden podium with Ferrucci’s guidance
Schuh enters Barber following his strongest FRAC weekend to date, having claimed his maiden podium with third place in the VIR finale.
The Crosslink Motorsports rookie opened the previous event with fifth place before taking advantage of the changing race circumstances on Sunday. His third-place result represented a significant milestone, moving him into ninth in the championship standings on 91 points.
Schuh will also benefit from additional guidance at Barber through his connection with INDYCAR driver Santino Ferrucci.
The pair share links through AJ Foyt Racing and sponsor Homes For Our Troops, with Ferrucci set to provide coaching as Schuh prepares for the technical demands of the Alabama circuit.
Ferrucci has considerable experience at Barber, including two top-ten INDYCAR finishes across the previous three seasons. His understanding of the circuit could provide useful insights as Schuh attempts to continue his recent progress.
Although he is no longer involved in the leading championship battles, another podium would represent a strong conclusion to Schuh’s rookie campaign. His results could also prove important to Crosslink’s pursuit of the Teams’ title.
Bobadilla arrives as newly crowned F4 NACAM champion
Bobadilla heads into the final FRAC event following success in another championship, having recently secured the 2026 F4 NACAM title.
The 19-year-old Mexican driver has balanced his FRAC commitments with a parallel campaign in his home country, collecting eight victories in F4 NACAM before securing the championship with one round remaining.
His FRAC campaign has also produced encouraging results, including a podium finish and several competitive performances as he continues developing his experience in more powerful machinery.
At VIR, Bobadilla finished fourth in Race 1 before adding seventh in the finale, scoring 18 points across the weekend. Those performances moved him to 105 points and reduced the gap to Kiwi Motorsport’s Harbir Dass to just three.
The two drivers consequently enter Barber separated by one of the smallest margins in the championship standings, with Dass seventh on 108 points and Bobadilla eighth.
Their battle provides another important storyline for the final two races, while Bobadilla’s performances could contribute valuable points towards Crosslink’s Teams’ Championship challenge.
Following Barber, the Mexican will turn his attention towards the F4 NACAM season finale, which takes place during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend.
Lawley returns ahead of Lamborghini World Finals
James Lawley will return to the FRAC field with Atlantic Racing Team after missing the penultimate event at VIR because of a scheduling conflict.
The British driver has balanced his FRAC commitments with Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America throughout the season, combining single-seater development with international GT racing.
Lawley enters Barber tenth in the championship standings on 71 points, having fallen behind Schuh following the Crosslink driver’s successful VIR weekend.
He will aim to return to competitive form during the final two FRAC races before immediately travelling to Italy for the Lamborghini World Finals at Monza, scheduled for 22–25 October.
The contrasting programmes have provided Lawley with experience across different categories of racing machinery, although balancing the two schedules has also resulted in missed FRAC events.
His return adds another experienced competitor to the final weekend, with Atlantic Racing Team seeking to conclude its campaign positively before shifting its attention to international GT competition.
FRAC finale joins decisive F4 U.S. and Ligier JFC weekends
The Barber event will also bring the 2026 F4 U.S. and Ligier Junior Formula Championship seasons to an end, with several championship positions still undecided.
In F4 U.S., Gastón Irazú arrives as the newly crowned Drivers’ Champion after securing the title at VIR. The Champagne Racing driver has claimed nine victories during the campaign and remains one win away from equalling Kyle Kirkwood’s championship record of ten.
Kiwi Motorsport has already secured the F4 U.S. Teams’ Championship, although Caleb Campbell, Clemente Huerta and Ayden Kohut will aim to conclude their campaigns with further podium finishes.
The Ligier JFC Gen. 2 championship remains particularly competitive, with Edward Kennedy leading Kiwi Motorsport’s Jack Speth by just 13 points. The two drivers will contest the final races with both the Drivers’ and Teams’ titles still available.
The championships will share Barber with Sportscar Vintage Racing Association and International GT, providing a full weekend of competition across several categories.
Barber to decide final 2026 FRAC championship honours
The final FRAC event presents a different championship picture from the one that existed before VIR. Golan has already secured the Drivers’ Championship, but the battles immediately behind him remain open, with Papasavvas, Shipman and Hauanio fighting for the remaining podium positions.
The Teams’ Championship also remains finely balanced. Toney Driver Development holds a 14-point advantage over Crosslink Motorsports, but the narrow difference leaves the title undecided with two races remaining.
The Masters Cup provides another championship contest, with Strickland attempting to defend his 16.5-point lead against Janzen after the Crosslink driver completed a sweep of the class at VIR.
Elsewhere, Powers and Bogle are separated by just half a point in the fight for fifth, while Dass and Bobadilla have only three points between them in seventh and eighth.
With $30,000 in Drivers’ Championship prizes still available and two further titles to decide, Barber Motorsports Park promises a consequential conclusion to the 2026 FRAC season. The championship may already have its overall winner, but the final two races will determine how the rest of the standings take shape.
