The 2026 Euroformula Open season reaches its conclusion at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from 23–25 October, with the championship returning to its traditional Spanish finale after a two-year absence. Although Rui-Heng Yeh secured the Drivers’ Championship at Monza, the battles for second place and the Rookie Trophy remain unresolved ahead of the eighth and final round.

Team Motopark arrives with the overall champion and both contenders for runner-up honours. Diego de la Torre holds a 39-point advantage over fellow Mexican Jesse Carrasquedo, while BVM Racing’s Javier Herrera leads Motopark’s Wiktor Dobrzański by just two points in the Rookie standings.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will welcome two championship newcomers, Ary Bansal and Yuhao Felix Fu, alongside several returning competitors. The finale also arrives shortly after confirmation that Palou Motorsport and Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing will join the championship in 2027, adding further interest to the series’ future.

Barcelona returns as Euroformula Open’s season finale

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya resumes its traditional position as the final venue on the Euroformula Open calendar after circuit works interrupted that arrangement during the previous two seasons.

In 2025, Monza hosted the championship decider as Tymek Kucharczyk secured the title ahead of Yevan David. The Polish driver eventually finished 17 points clear following a closely contested campaign, before progressing to Indy NXT for 2026.

This year’s championship has followed a different pattern. Yeh secured the overall title with one round remaining, removing the pressure of the championship fight from the final weekend. However, the remaining classifications still offer considerable opportunities for the drivers immediately behind him.

As a result, Barcelona will conclude the eight-round campaign with three races and several important positions still available. The championship has already visited Portimão, Spa-Francorchamps, Misano, the Hungaroring, Paul Ricard, Hockenheim and Monza.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provides demanding final test

The 4.657km Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya combines a long main straight with technical corners and several high-speed sections, creating a demanding challenge for drivers and teams.

The opening sector provides an important overtaking opportunity under braking for Turn 1, while the long right-hander at Turn 3 places considerable emphasis on car balance and tyre performance. Furthermore, the faster corners demand commitment and precision, particularly as drivers attempt to maintain momentum through the lap.

The circuit’s combination of corner speeds also requires teams to find an effective compromise between straight-line performance and aerodynamic grip. Drivers must manage their tyres carefully, especially during longer race stints where sustained cornering loads can influence performance.

Consequently, qualifying could prove particularly important. Although the long straight offers opportunities to attack, drivers must also maintain sufficient pace through the technical sections to remain within striking distance of their rivals.

Yeh arrives in Barcelona as confirmed champion

Rui-Heng Yeh enters the final round without the championship pressure that has accompanied much of his season. The Taipei driver secured the 2026 Euroformula Open title at Monza, completing a successful campaign that has already delivered eight victories.

Yeh established his championship advantage early, winning twice at Portimão before completing a clean sweep at Spa-Francorchamps. His consistency across the following rounds allowed him to maintain a substantial advantage even as his rivals became increasingly competitive.

At Monza, Yeh finished sixth in Race 1 and second in Race 2 before winning the final contest. As detailed in Pit Debrief’s Monza race report, that victory secured the Drivers’ Championship with one round remaining.

The Motopark driver consequently arrives in Barcelona with 379 points and the opportunity to increase his victory tally. With the title already secure, he can concentrate on ending his championship-winning campaign with another strong weekend.

De la Torre carries Monza momentum into Barcelona

Diego de la Torre occupies second place in the Drivers’ Championship with 295 points after one of his strongest performances of the season at Monza.

The Mexican won both Saturday races at the Italian circuit, recovering from a difficult start in Race 1 before charging through the field again in Race 2. He also claimed the fastest lap in both contests, demonstrating the pace that has made him one of Yeh’s strongest challengers during the second half of the campaign.

However, his weekend ended prematurely following contact with Herrera during Race 3. The resulting retirement prevented de la Torre from adding to his points tally and allowed Yeh to secure the championship.

Nevertheless, de la Torre retains a 39-point advantage over Carrasquedo heading into Barcelona. With 76 points still available, he remains in a favourable position to secure runner-up honours, although he cannot afford to underestimate his teammate’s pace.

Carrasquedo seeks late challenge for second place

Jesse Carrasquedo remains mathematically capable of overtaking de la Torre despite entering the finale third in the standings on 256 points.

The Mexican has demonstrated impressive qualifying pace throughout 2026, regularly challenging the leading contenders and securing multiple pole positions. At Monza, he topped Free Practice before claiming pole position in a closely contested qualifying session.

However, Carrasquedo could not convert that advantage into victory. He finished eighth in Race 1 and fifth in Race 2 before recovering to second behind Yeh in the final contest.

Although his teammate’s two victories increased the gap between them, Carrasquedo still has three races to recover the deficit. Both drivers also face the championship’s dropped-score regulations, with each currently carrying one point from their third-worst result.

Consequently, the fight for second could remain open throughout the weekend. Carrasquedo will need strong results across all three races while hoping to outscore his teammate significantly.

Herrera holds narrow Rookie Trophy advantage

The closest remaining championship battle involves Javier Herrera and Wiktor Dobrzański, who enter Barcelona separated by only two points in the Rookie Trophy.

Herrera leads with 139 points, having maintained his position at the top despite a difficult conclusion to his Monza weekend. The Mexican finished second overall in Race 1 and secured the Rookie victory, but retirement in Race 2 prevented him from extending his advantage.

His difficulties continued in Race 3 when contact with de la Torre resulted in a 10-second penalty. Although Herrera remained competitive throughout the contest, the penalty dropped him down the classification and limited his points haul.

Consequently, his seven-point advantage after Hockenheim has fallen to just two. With three races remaining, even a small change in their finishing positions could prove decisive.

Herrera will therefore need to combine his demonstrated race-winning pace with consistency as he attempts to secure the Rookie title in his debut Euroformula Open campaign.

Dobrzański targets Rookie title and maiden outright victory

Wiktor Dobrzański enters Barcelona with considerable momentum after another impressive performance at Monza.

The Polish driver endured a difficult opening race, retiring following an incident with Jan Koller. However, he recovered to sixth in Race 2 before securing third place in the final contest, finishing just 1.044 seconds behind winner Yeh.

That podium also delivered the Rookie victory, while his fastest lap on the final tour earned another valuable point in the overall classification.

Dobrzański has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to challenge the championship’s established frontrunners. Earlier in the season, he finished second at Paul Ricard and Hockenheim, narrowly missing his maiden outright victory on both occasions.

His recent performances have consequently strengthened his Rookie title challenge while highlighting his development throughout the campaign.

Barcelona offers another opportunity to convert that progress into an outright win. More importantly, the narrow championship margin means Dobrzański can take the Rookie lead with another strong result.

Famularo aims to finish season strongly with BVM Racing

Alessandro Famularo heads into Barcelona fifth in the Drivers’ Championship with 202 points, leading BVM Racing’s challenge in the overall standings.

The Venezuelan has secured two victories during the campaign and has regularly challenged Motopark’s leading drivers. His success includes a strong performance at Hockenheim, where he won Race 2 after moving ahead of both front-row starters during the opening lap.

At Monza, Famularo added another podium with third place in Race 1 before finishing fourth in the final contest. Those results helped him move closer to Everett Stack, who remains fourth in the standings on 211 points despite ending his campaign before the final rounds.

With only nine points separating them, Famularo has a clear opportunity to finish the season inside the championship’s top four.

Furthermore, BVM Racing will be looking to challenge Motopark for individual race victories as the Italian operation concludes another competitive campaign.

Castillo and Koller complete Motopark’s regular line-up

Lorenzo Castillo and Jan Koller will continue their respective campaigns with Team Motopark at Barcelona, adding further depth to the German outfit’s sizeable entry.

Castillo enters the weekend eighth in the overall standings with 87 points, while Koller follows in ninth on 73. Both have experienced challenging moments throughout their rookie campaigns but have also demonstrated encouraging progress against more experienced competitors.

At Monza, Castillo finished seventh in Race 1 before improving to fourth in Race 2 and fifth in Race 3. Koller retired from the opening race but recovered to eighth and sixth in the remaining contests.

Their results have also contributed to Motopark’s strong position in the Teams’ Championship and the wider Rookie Trophy standings.

Although neither remains in contention for the Rookie title, both will have opportunities to improve their final championship positions. Additionally, their performances could influence the battles involving their teammates at the front.

Ferrazzano and Neri Motorsport seek positive conclusion

Aaron Ferrazzano returns with Neri Motorsport as the French team prepares to complete its maiden Euroformula Open season.

The Belgian has developed alongside the operation throughout 2026, gaining experience with the Dallara 324 while the team continues establishing itself within the championship.

Ferrazzano missed the Hockenheim round but returned to competition at Monza, where he finished ninth in both Saturday races before improving to seventh in the finale. Those results increased his championship total to 38 points.

Although Neri has faced the challenges that accompany a debut campaign, the team has demonstrated encouraging progress across the season. Ferrazzano’s performances have also provided valuable experience as the organisation continues refining its operations.

Consequently, Barcelona presents another opportunity for the driver and team to build on their development. A competitive weekend would provide an encouraging conclusion to their first year in the series.

Koolen returns with BVM Racing after Monza debut

Niels Koolen will make his second Euroformula Open appearance of the season at Barcelona, although the Dutchman will compete with a different team following his debut at Monza.

Koolen joined Team Motopark for the Italian round, taking over the seat previously occupied by Everett Stack. His arrival brought considerable single-seater experience to the grid, including appearances in FIA Formula 2 and Indy NXT.

Despite limited preparation, Koolen finished fifth in his opening Euroformula race before taking seventh in Race 2. His final contest proved more difficult, leaving him ninth after completing one fewer lap than the leaders.

The Dutch driver now moves to BVM Racing for the season finale, where he will join an expanded line-up.

Although his experience should help him adapt, the change of team presents another challenge as he familiarises himself with a different engineering environment and attempts to build on his first Euroformula weekend.

Miranda Baptista rejoins BVM Racing for second appearance

Ricardo Miranda Baptista also returns to the Euroformula Open grid with BVM Racing for his second appearance of the 2026 season.

The Brazilian previously competed at Misano earlier in the year, adding to his experience across several junior single-seater categories. His background includes Brazilian Formula 4 and GB3, providing exposure to different technical regulations and competitive environments.

His return increases BVM Racing’s presence at Barcelona, where the team will field a mixture of established championship contenders and drivers gaining additional experience.

For Baptista, the final round offers another opportunity to develop his understanding of the Tom’s-powered Dallara 324 and measure his performance against the championship regulars.

Furthermore, three races across the weekend should provide valuable competitive mileage as he continues his single-seater development.

Bansal makes Euroformula Open debut with BVM Racing

One of Barcelona’s most interesting additions will be Ary Bansal, who makes his Euroformula Open debut with BVM Racing.

The 16-year-old Indian arrives following a successful period in junior single-seater racing. After gaining experience in GB4, Bansal progressed into Italian Formula 4 and the E4 Championship during 2026, establishing himself among the leading young drivers in both competitions.

He secured third place in the Italian F4 standings and claimed three victories across his F4 campaigns this season, demonstrating his ability to compete against highly rated international opposition.

However, Barcelona will introduce a different challenge as Bansal steps into the more powerful Dallara 324 for the first time in Euroformula competition.

His recent performances suggest he has the potential to adapt quickly, although the technical demands of the machinery and the circuit will require careful preparation.

The finale therefore represents an important opportunity for Bansal to gain experience at a higher level.

Fu joins Motopark for Euroformula Open debut

Team Motopark will introduce another newcomer at Barcelona as 18-year-old Yuhao Felix Fu makes his first Euroformula Open appearance.

The Chinese driver arrives from GB3, bringing experience of competitive single-seater racing in Europe. Earlier in his career, Fu also achieved success in Chinese Formula 4 and other junior championships before progressing to more demanding machinery.

His debut adds another driver to Motopark’s already substantial line-up, which includes the newly crowned champion Yeh alongside de la Torre, Carrasquedo, Dobrzański, Castillo and Koller.

Although Fu will encounter unfamiliar machinery, his experience in GB3 should provide a useful foundation as he adapts to the Dallara 324.

Furthermore, competing alongside several established Euroformula frontrunners will give him an opportunity to assess his performance against drivers who understand the championship’s technical requirements.

Barcelona will therefore serve as both a competitive debut and a valuable learning opportunity for the young Chinese driver.

Motopark holds commanding Teams’ Championship advantage

Team Motopark enters Barcelona with a substantial advantage in the Teams’ Championship after another successful weekend at Monza.

The German team accumulated 306 points across the opening seven rounds, extending its advantage over BVM Racing to 115 points. De la Torre’s two victories and Yeh’s Race 3 triumph helped Motopark strengthen its position, while Carrasquedo and Dobrzański completed an all-Motopark podium in the final contest.

BVM Racing follows on 191 points after a productive Monza weekend of its own. Herrera and Famularo finished second and third in Race 1, while debutant Nicolò Maccagnani added another podium in Race 2.

DRIVEX remains third on 64 points, ahead of Neri Motorsport on 51.

Although Motopark has established a commanding lead, the final round still offers BVM Racing an opportunity to challenge for race victories and conclude its campaign with further podium finishes.

Palou Motorsport and Nitrous ADM Racing confirm 2027 entries

Barcelona also arrives during an important period for Euroformula Open’s longer-term development, with two teams recently confirming plans to join the championship in 2027.

In September, Palou Motorsport announced a three-car entry. Five-time IndyCar champion Alex Palou founded the Barcelona-based team alongside his father Ramon, and the operation currently competes in Eurocup-3.

The move also reconnects Palou with the championship in which he began his single-seater career in 2014.

Meanwhile, Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing confirmed its own three-car programme on 19 October. The Northampton-based team, led by Gary Ward, has competed in GB4 during 2026 and intends to expand its European racing activities.

Together, the two announcements represent six planned Dallara 324 entries for next season, providing encouragement as Euroformula Open works to strengthen its grid.

Championship standings before Barcelona

Yeh enters the finale with the Drivers’ Championship already secure, although several positions behind him remain open. De la Torre and Carrasquedo continue their battle for second, while Famularo has an opportunity to overtake the absent Stack for fourth.

The leading overall standings following Monza are:

  1. Rui-Heng Yeh — Team Motopark — 379 points
  2. Diego de la Torre — Team Motopark — 295
  3. Jesse Carrasquedo — Team Motopark — 256
  4. Everett Stack — Team Motopark — 211
  5. Alessandro Famularo — BVM Racing — 202
  6. Javier Herrera — BVM Racing — 189
  7. Wiktor Dobrzański — Team Motopark — 158
  8. Lorenzo Castillo — Team Motopark — 87
  9. Jan Koller — Team Motopark — 73
  10. Genaro Trappa — DRIVEX — 56

The Rookie Trophy remains much closer. Herrera leads Dobrzański by just two points, 139 to 137, while Castillo sits third on 100. Koller follows with 69 and Ferrazzano completes the leading five on 51.

Barcelona weekend schedule

The final Euroformula Open round will take place from Friday, 23 October, to Sunday, 25 October, with two Free Practice sessions preceding Qualifying and three races.

Friday will provide the drivers with their final opportunities to refine their setups ahead of Saturday’s competitive action. Qualifying will begin at 10:05 local time on 24 October, before Race 1 starts at 14:10.

Sunday will feature the remaining two contests. Race 2 will begin at 10:30, while Race 3 will bring the 2026 season to a close at 16:50. Each race will cover 17 laps, subject to the event’s 30-minute race limit.

Fans can follow the action through the official Euroformula Open YouTube channel, while the championship will provide live timing through its official website.

Barcelona set for competitive conclusion to 2026

Although Yeh has already secured the championship, Barcelona still has the potential to produce an eventful conclusion to the Euroformula Open season.

De la Torre enters the weekend with the advantage in the fight for second, but Carrasquedo has demonstrated sufficient pace to challenge his teammate. Meanwhile, the Rookie Trophy presents an even closer contest, with Herrera and Dobrzański separated by just two points after seven rounds.

The arrival of Bansal and Fu introduces additional uncertainty, while Koolen and Miranda Baptista will add depth to BVM Racing’s expanded entry. Furthermore, Famularo and Ferrazzano will both be aiming to conclude their respective campaigns with strong performances.

The recent confirmations of Palou Motorsport and Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing for 2027 also provide a positive backdrop as the championship prepares for its final races.

With three contests remaining, the Drivers’ title may already belong to Yeh, but Barcelona will still determine several important championship honours before Euroformula Open turns its attention towards 2027.
