Deagen Fairclough remains determined to fight for both the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships as the 2026 GB3 season reaches its conclusion at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend. The Hitech driver enters the final round in exceptional form, having won all six conventional-grid races across the previous three events, although he acknowledges that overturning Nikita Bedrin’s substantial championship advantage will require an extraordinary sequence of results.
The 20-year-old Briton has transformed his season following a difficult opening four rounds, during which six non-finishes left him 217 points behind the championship leader. Since then, Fairclough has outscored Bedrin by 128 points, securing three consecutive double-winning weekends at Silverstone, Donington Park and Brands Hatch to become the Italian’s closest challenger.
Despite his remarkable resurgence, Fairclough arrives in Barcelona 89 points behind Bedrin, with a maximum of 102 available across the final three races. However, with the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup and Teams’ Championship also undecided, the Hitech driver remains determined to finish his campaign strongly.
Fairclough acknowledges difficult task of overturning Bedrin’s championship lead
Fairclough’s championship challenge appeared effectively over midway through the season after a series of retirements and setbacks prevented him from converting his early pace into consistent results. However, his performances have improved dramatically since the championship’s return to Silverstone in August, allowing him to climb from tenth to second in the standings.
The Briton now has seven victories to his name, one more than Bedrin, and has established himself as the driver to beat during the second half of the campaign. Nevertheless, the championship leader’s considerable points advantage means Fairclough cannot secure the title through his own performances alone.
Speaking ahead of Barcelona, Fairclough acknowledged the difficulty of the situation while emphasising that he and Hitech have continued pushing throughout the season. “We’ve tried our best,” he explained. “Mathematically, we can still win, but I’ll need a miracle for that to happen.”
The championship standings following Brands Hatch leave Bedrin on 445 points, ahead of Fairclough on 356. Lucas Fluxá and Martin Molnar also remain mathematically in contention, although Bedrin requires only 14 additional points to guarantee the championship regardless of his rivals’ results.
Fairclough hopes for another on-track battle with Bedrin
Although Fairclough’s title hopes depend heavily on Bedrin encountering difficulties, the Hitech driver has no desire to see his rival suffer misfortune. Instead, he hopes the final weekend will provide another opportunity for the pair to battle directly for victory, particularly after their memorable encounter at Donington Park.
The Briton has enjoyed several closely contested races against the championship leader throughout the season, with their contrasting circumstances adding another dimension to those battles. While Bedrin has often needed to protect his substantial advantage, Fairclough has approached recent events with considerably less to lose.
“I like racing and getting the job done on track to win it outright,” Fairclough explained. “I don’t wish Nikita any bad luck as I’m here to have a good battle with him and end the season on a high.
“It’s a shame we didn’t get to have that title fight all season, but we’ve tried our best. We’ve been able to have some good battles with Nikita recently.”
The 2026 Barcelona championship permutations demonstrate just how difficult Fairclough’s task has become. A seventh-place finish or better for Bedrin in Saturday’s opening race would immediately settle the title, leaving Fairclough to concentrate on securing further victories and finishing the campaign as strongly as possible.
Donington Park duel remains among Fairclough’s season highlights
One of the defining moments of Fairclough’s resurgence came during the opening race at Donington Park in September, where he defeated Bedrin following an intense battle for victory. The championship leader had secured pole position by just 0.056 seconds, but Fairclough immediately attacked and completed a decisive move around the outside of Redgate on the opening lap.
Bedrin remained within striking distance throughout the contest, launching several attacks during the closing stages. However, Fairclough defended successfully despite the sustained pressure, eventually crossing the line just 0.317 seconds ahead of his rival.
The closely contested Donington Park Race 1 victory marked Fairclough’s third consecutive conventional-grid win, demonstrating both his improving pace and his ability to compete directly against the championship leader.
Reflecting on the encounter, Fairclough suggested that their respective championship positions may have influenced their approaches to the battle. “I didn’t really have much to lose,” he explained. “He was leading the championship so might have been a bit more reserved, but he still gave it a good go, and it was a very good battle. I really enjoyed that race and I just wish there had been more of that this year.”
Brands Hatch double strengthens Fairclough’s impressive run
Fairclough’s strongest performances continued at Brands Hatch, where he secured both pole positions before converting them into victories during the opening two races. His dominant qualifying display established a new GB3 lap record around the Grand Prix circuit, while his race pace allowed him to maintain a substantial advantage over the chasing field.
The Hitech driver won Race 1 by 14.392 seconds over Maxim Rehm, recording one of the largest winning margins in the championship’s history. He then completed another commanding performance in Race 2, defeating Rowan Campbell-Pilling by 7.432 seconds to secure his seventh victory of the season.
Fairclough also made considerable progress during the reversed-grid finale, recovering from 12th to fifth to complete one of his strongest weekends of the campaign. The results delivered 88 championship points, matching his haul from Donington Park and lifting him into second in the Drivers’ standings.
The dominant Brands Hatch weekend also earned him a third successive Omologato One to Watch Award after scoring the maximum 70 points available across the first two races.
Asked to identify a particularly memorable moment from the season, Fairclough selected his performance at his home circuit. “The Brands Hatch weekend as a whole [was a highlight],” he explained. “I just love that circuit and the results spoke volumes.”
Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup provides another opportunity for Fairclough
Although the Drivers’ Championship remains a distant prospect, Fairclough has a considerably stronger opportunity to secure the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup. The Hitech driver enters Barcelona with five pole positions, just one behind Bedrin, after producing exceptional qualifying performances during the second half of the season.
Fairclough has secured five of the six available pole positions across the previous three rounds, demonstrating an improvement in single-lap pace that has played an important role in his recent winning streak. However, the championship leader retains the advantage heading into the final qualifying sessions.
Bedrin would secure the £2,000 prize with another pole position, while Fairclough must complete a double pole to overturn the current standings. The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup battle therefore provides another important objective for both drivers before the final three races begin.
Fairclough identified his second qualifying session at Silverstone as a particularly satisfying achievement, having recovered from an initially difficult session to secure the fastest time.
“I was very happy with the pole position at Silverstone in Q2,” he recalled. “I was nowhere but, all of a sudden, was able to get triple-purple and put it on pole. That feeling crossing the line and hearing the boys on the radio screaming was a highlight.”
His recent qualifying performances suggest he will again be a leading contender when the field takes to the circuit on Saturday morning.
Hitech remains in contention for 2026 GB3 Teams’ Championship
Fairclough’s resurgence has also contributed significantly to Hitech’s improvement in the Teams’ Championship, with the organisation moving into third place following its successful Brands Hatch weekend. The team enters Barcelona on 691 points, trailing championship leaders Rodin Motorsport by 67 and second-placed VRD Racing by 51.
Hitech has secured nine victories during the 2026 campaign, more than any other team on the grid. Fairclough accounts for seven of those successes, while Jin Nakamura and Jacob Micallef have contributed one victory each, demonstrating the organisation’s competitiveness across several drivers.
The team’s recent improvements have also allowed it to move ahead of Xcel Motorsport, although overturning Rodin’s advantage will require another exceptional weekend. The four-way Teams’ Championship battle heading into Barcelona remains mathematically open, with 189 points theoretically available.
Fairclough praised Hitech’s continued determination despite the difficulties encountered earlier in the year, highlighting the collective effort behind its resurgence.
“They’ve not stopped working,” he explained. “We haven’t given up and kept pushing to try and get more out of the car. It would be very special if we can win [the teams’ title], but we just need to keep our heads down and work together.”
Barcelona presents another opportunity for Hitech to challenge at the front
Fairclough remains confident that Hitech can maintain its recent momentum during the championship’s first visit to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The team demonstrated promising performance during post-season testing at the Spanish venue in 2025, providing an encouraging reference as it prepares for the final round.
However, Barcelona’s combination of high-speed corners and technical sections will place considerable importance on car balance and qualifying execution. With three races scheduled across the weekend, a small mistake during either qualifying session could significantly influence a driver’s opportunity to challenge near the front.
Fairclough believes the team’s previous testing performance provides reason for optimism, particularly given its exceptional results throughout the second half of the season.
“We were very strong at Barcelona in the test at the end of last year,” he explained. “We’re carrying some very good momentum so hopefully this circuit is one that suits our car. You need to get every single corner nailed in qualifying to be at the front, as one mistake can be quite costly.”
Hitech will field Fairclough alongside Yuhao Fu and British F4 runner-up Theo Palmer, who will make his GB3 debut. However, Palmer’s status as a final-round newcomer means he is ineligible to score championship points, placing particular importance on the performances of Fairclough and Fu in the Teams’ Championship battle.
Fairclough determined to finish remarkable 2026 comeback strongly
The final GB3 weekend of 2026 will provide Fairclough with an opportunity to complete one of the championship’s most impressive mid-season recoveries. After falling more than 200 points behind Bedrin during the opening four rounds, the Briton has transformed his campaign through six consecutive conventional-grid victories and a remarkable improvement in qualifying performance.
Although his chances of securing the Drivers’ Championship remain slim, his recent results have demonstrated his ability to compete consistently at the front. His seven victories also give him the highest win tally of any driver heading into Barcelona, underlining the progress he and Hitech have made throughout the season.
The Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup and Teams’ Championship provide additional opportunities for success, while another strong weekend could allow Fairclough to consolidate second place in the Drivers’ standings. He currently holds just a one-point advantage over Fluxá and five over Molnar, leaving their battle for the remaining championship positions closely contested.
With qualifying and Race 1 scheduled for Saturday, 7 November, before the final two races on Sunday, Fairclough will aim to maintain his exceptional form while hoping for another opportunity to battle Bedrin directly.
Regardless of the championship outcome, his resurgence has already established him as one of the defining performers of the 2026 GB3 season. Barcelona will now provide one final opportunity to demonstrate that competitiveness and reward Hitech’s efforts with further success.
