Netflix has officially released the highly anticipated trailer for F1: The Academy, its upcoming docuseries spotlighting the 2024 F1 Academy season — a thrilling all-female championship that captured global attention last year.

Set to premiere on Netflix worldwide on 28 May, the seven-episode series follows the journeys of 15 female drivers as they navigate the pressures, rivalries, and triumphs of a demanding seven-round season. Produced by Reese Witherspoon’s award-winning production company Hello Sunshine, F1: The Academy promises a gripping, intimate look at the next generation of motorsport talent.

Described as “adrenaline-fuelled”, the series offers never-before-seen footage of the drivers’ emotional and physical battles on and off the track. Viewers will gain exclusive access to the inner workings of the teams and the personal stories that defined a landmark year for women in racing.

First look at the trailer and episodes

The trailer, which debuted online, teases high-speed action, behind-the-scenes drama, and candid interviews with several key figures. Among the standout moments are scenes from Abbi Pulling’s championship campaign, Bianca Bustamante under pressure, and the Al Qubaisi sisters, Amna and Hamda, whose shared ambition adds a powerful narrative layer.

Echoing the tone and style of the globally successful Formula 1: Drive to Survive, the series blends real race footage with unprecedented behind-the-scenes access, offering a cinematic portrayal of what it takes to rise through the ranks of elite motorsport.

Susie Wolff, Managing Director of F1 Academy, also features prominently in the trailer. She reflects on the high stakes and “cutthroat nature” of the series, emphasising the intensity and importance of creating a clear pathway for female drivers to reach the top levels of the sport.

With F1: The Academy, Netflix and Hello Sunshine aim to do more than entertain — they intend to inspire, showcasing the grit, resilience, and raw talent driving the future of Formula 1.

Fans can anticipate an array of impressive shots of the 15 drivers pushing the limits on track. There will certainly be no shortage of high-speed overtakes and action to go alongside the off-track drama.
