Team Principal Sander Dorsman was full of praise for MP Motorsport’s execution and Richard Verschoor’s clinical performance after the Dutch driver claimed victory in the 2025 Spielberg F2 Feature Race. Starting third on the grid, Verschoor utilised strong strategy and precise racecraft to rise to the top, delivering the team’s third win of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 season and taking over the Drivers’ Championship lead.

Following the race, Dorsman reflected on what he called an “amazing weekend” for the team, emphasising the quality of teamwork across the garage and pit wall.

“It has been an amazing weekend,” said Dorsman. “Of course, P3 in Quali, it was a good Quali from Richard, but it was obviously super close in the top three, time-wise. So unfortunately, we just missed out on pole, but this victory compensates a lot.”

Strategy execution and on-track composure

At lights out, Verschoor immediately moved up to second behind Leonardo Fornaroli. However, a well-timed pit stop by Victor Martins meant the ART Grand Prix driver jumped both in the early phase of the race. Crucially, though, Verschoor rejoined ahead of Fornaroli, positioning himself to strike.

“It was a fantastic drive from Richard, it was super consistent,” continued Dorsman, reflecting on the 2025 Spielberg F2 Race. “Big compliments to the guys also for the car they gave Richard, and they did a great job also with the pit stop and the strategy.”

Once back on track, Verschoor wasted no time overtaking Martins to retake the net race lead of the 2025 Spielberg F2 race. From there, he focused on controlling the gap, keeping Alexander Dunne at bay in the closing laps. While Dunne briefly threatened, the MP driver managed the pace masterfully to secure victory by 1.1 seconds.

“We just went in front of Fornaroli, so that helped, and just behind Victor. But Richard showed really good pace, first to get past Victor and then to get him out of DRS range. After that he managed the race really well and then kept the gap around two seconds to Dunne. For everyone on the pit wall it was long laps, but we will probably enjoy the race a bit more when we look back on it.”

A leader at the halfway point

Verschoor’s Spielberg win marks his third victory of the 2025 season and elevates him to the top of the Drivers’ Championship. Following Alexander Dunne’s post-race disqualification, the Dutchman now holds a 24-point lead heading into Round 8 at Silverstone.

For Dorsman and MP Motorsport, this level of performance from Verschoor at the 2025 Spielberg F2 Round is precisely what they envisioned when re-signing him for 2025.

“This is exactly what we hoped for,” said Dorsman. “But in F2 especially, it is very difficult to predict what you can do. We are only halfway through the season so it is a long way to go.”

Nevertheless, with three wins, consistent points, and strong synergy between driver and team, MP Motorsport find themselves in a commanding position.

“But this is why we are keen to have him back with us. We have won Championships before, but we would like to obviously win this one as well. Still a long way to go and we still have to work very hard to see what we can do.”

Optimism for Silverstone but hard work needed

Looking ahead, MP Motorsport and Verschoor now turn their focus to Silverstone—a track where both have succeeded in the past. Notably, they clinched a victory together there in 2021, and with their current form, they will arrive in Britain with optimism.

“We like the track, Richard likes the track, so let us see,” said Dorsman. “The racing there is normally not boring, so let us hope for the best. Would be nice to repeat this one but guess we have to work a bit harder for that.”

With the season’s halfway mark now behind them, MP Motorsport are emerging as one of the strongest outfits in the 2025 F2 campaign. Verschoor’s calm under pressure, combined with the team’s sharp strategic calls and technical preparation, has placed them firmly in control—for now.
