With Season 11 of Formula E finished, the driver and also the team market is on fire. DS Penkse driver Maximilian Günther has addressed the rumours around the seat next to him, and also the fact that Stellantis could join as a works team in the future.
Günther praises Barnard amid rumours of signed Penske Formula E contract
Ahead of the Berlin E-Prix, rumours circulated that Barnard has signed a contract with Penske from next year. The young Briton, who was aiming at P2 in the standings, didn’t want to comment on this.
Before the on-track action for the season finale in London started, Pit Debrief reminded Maximilian Günther of his relaxed summer ahead, as the seat next to him could be filled by the McLaren rookie.
“As you say, my off-season will be pretty relaxed because I have a contract for the next few years. In the end, my focus is now simply on the season finale.
“We and I will see what happens next to me then,” Günther said with a little grin.
The German praises Barnard: “To answer Taylor, I think he’s an outstanding driver. He’s very young, very fast, intelligent, strong in the races. He’s had a really, really good debut here in Formula E. I think he has a very bright future ahead of him.”
Stellantis set to join as works team?
Over the past days, it emerged that Stellantis confirmed its entry as a works team in Season 13. On LinkedIn, the company searched for a Senior Performance Engineer for the Versailles Satory site via a job advert and stated: “For the first time in our Formula E history, Stellantis will be competing with its own team – built to compete without compromises.”
This seems to confirm the Stellantis entry. Asked by Pit Debrief if this statement could impact his sporting perspective and also from DS Penske, Günther asked to wait and see.
“Well, I’ll just say that I think we’ll have to wait for the official announcements. I think that a lot is happening in the team market in general in the next few years.
“I’m under contract with Penske and for me the vision with the team is very, very clear. We have a very strong partner, Stellantis. And we’ve had very, very good successes with them again this year.
“We’ll see what the future brings,” he concludes.
