The first race of the London E-Prix ended for Maximilian Günther after just a few corners. After starting sxith, he was pushed into the outside wall of Turn 6 by Mahindra driver Edoardo Mortara.

Günther focuses on Race 2 of London E-Prix

Speaking to Pit Debrief, the German shortly explained the situation that ended his race.

“A very short race for us. There’s not really much to say about it. We were on the outside in Turns 4-5 and then unfortunately we were taken out of the race. The suspension broke and there was nothing we could do about it.”

Mortara didn’t receive any penalty for the incident. Günther seems frustrated about it and says his only focus would be on tomorrow’s race day.

“I have a clear view, but it doesn’t matter because the race is over for us. That’s all that counts.

“My part of the job hurts, of course, but my focus is already entirely on tomorrow.”

Similiar chaos expected in Race 2

Asked on what would have been the strategy, Günther says his starting position was good enough to be in the fight after the pit boost stops. He also believes there is going to be similar chaos as in Race 1.

“Well, we had a good position with P6 after qualifying and then, of course, we tried to gain another place before the pit stop.

“The pit boost window is always very exciting, and it’s very important to find a good pace there. And then just to get into a good position for the final phase of the race.

“I think there was a bit of action here in London again today. And I think tomorrow will be very similar.”

Vergne will be a help for tomorrow’s race

For tomorrow, Günther won’t have experience for the race. Therefore, his teammate Jean-Éric Vergne will be a help for the plans.

“My experience is really only from free practice and qualifying, because I didn’t actually race.

“So we’ll take a look at what my teammate has to say before the race. And we’ll incorporate that into tomorrow’s plans.
