Formula 1 finally got its first taste of the new Madring for FP1, as the Spanish GP returned to Madrid. With the circuit representing an unknown for much of the grid, FP1 provided the first opportunity for teams to gather data. The distinctive layout, including the heavily banked Turn 12, adds another challenge for the drivers as they adapt to the high-speed and technical sections of the new venue.

Yuki Tsunoda finished his session early as he had a steering problem with his Racing Bull. The Japanese driver is standing in for Liam Lawson at Racing Bulls this weekend, with Lawson himself stepping into the Red Bull seat usually occupied by Isack Hadjar. Hadjar remains sidelined with a wrist injury that has kept him out for a third consecutive GP, with Tsunoda and Lawson once again taking on substitute roles for the Madrid weekend.

Both Mercedes and Ferrari appeared particularly strong throughout FP1, with their drivers gradually building their confidence as they became more comfortable with the unfamiliar Madring layout.

Tyre management also emerged as an early talking point, with noticeable degradation on the front-left tyre throughout the session. Some rear-left degradation was also observed, adding another factor for teams to consider as they worked to understand the demands of the new circuit and its newly laid surface.
