After the Feature Race at the F2 Belgian GP, officials handed out post-race penalties to two drivers, reshuffling the final results and promoting others into key podium positions. The stewards handed Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Dunne a ten-second time penalty for failing to engage the start-up procedure. Additionally, Campos Racing’s Arvid Lindblad was disqualified for breaching technical regulations.
As a result, Invicta Racing’s Roman Staněk—who finished P3—now inherits the race win. Joining Staněk, ART GP’s Ritomo Miyata moves up to P2 to claim his maiden podium, while Hitech TGR’s Luke Browning claims P3.
Dunne penalised for failing to engage start-up procedure
After delivering a dominant weekend, Dunne’s efforts ended in disappointment as he lost his hard-earned Feature Race win. Following the race, the stewards handed the Irishman a ten-second time penalty for failing to engage the starting procedure.
At the beginning of the formation lap, race control identified Dunne as the only driver who didn’t initiate the procedure. The issue was then referred to a FIA technical delegate, who confirmed that data from Dunne’s car showed no evidence of the start procedure being engaged—constituting a breach of Article 1.6.1 of the F2 Technical Regulations. Despite Dunne and Rodin team representatives meeting with the stewards to discuss the matter, officials ultimately imposed the penalty, dropping Dunne from the win to P9.
Lindblad disqualified for breaching minimum tyre pressures
Like Dunne, the young Briton will no doubt feel disappointed to lose his podium. The stewards disqualified Lindblad from the race after they determined his car had breached technical regulations.
Post-race, officials referred his car to the stewards for inspection. After speaking with Campos team representatives, the FIA technical delegate confirmed that Lindblad’s tyres violated Article 10.4.3 of the F2 technical regulations. Subsequently, the stewards ruled to disqualify him from the Feature Race.
Standings shake-up after major penalties
As a result, Staněk’s teammate and reigning F3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli has now reclaimed the championship lead. Just three points shy, MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor follows closely behind after a disappointing weekend. DAMS Lucas Oil’s Jak Crawford completes the top three in the Drivers’ Standings. As five rounds remain, a mere 12 points separate the top five. The fight for the championship is far from over.
