Christian Horner has allegedly resolved his legal dispute with a former Red Bull Racing employee through an out-of-court settlement reportedly worth £3 million, ending a controversy that has dominated F1 headlines throughout 2024.
The Red Bull team principal became embroiled in scandal earlier this year following allegations of inappropriate behaviour involving a then-current member of staff. The accusations prompted two separate investigations led by King’s Counsel, both of which cleared Horner of any wrongdoing.
Settlement allegedly brings legal proceedings to close
According to the Daily Mail, the former Red Bull staff member allegedly received the substantial £3 million settlement, effectively ending all legal proceedings. Reports indicate that both parties have now dropped the case, which had been scheduled for a hearing around New Year’s.
The publication further reported that the employee attended the Singapore Grand Prix representing her new employer, another F1 team, suggesting she has moved on professionally from the Red Bull organisation.
Horner’s departure and substantial severance
The controversy has allegedly triggered far-reaching consequences for Red Bull Racing’s leadership structure. Horner himself reportedly left the Austrian team shortly after the British Grand Prix, ending his tenure in a role he had held for over two decades. Sources claim he received a substantial severance package reportedly valued at £60 million.
Horner was not the only high-profile figure to depart Red Bull in the wake of the allegations, as the organisation experienced significant personnel changes throughout the turbulent period.
Horner eyes potential return to F1
2Despite the controversy, Horner reportedly already seeks opportunities to return to the pinnacle of motorsport. During the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, reports emerged that the British motorsport chief had contacted several teams regarding potential roles within their organisations. Various team principals have commented on the possibility of Horner joining their outfits in future.
However, speculation suggests that any return may see Horner adopt a different role from his previous position. Multiple sources indicate he is considering re-entering Formula 1 in an ownership capacity rather than returning to the team principal role he occupied at Red Bull for more than 20 years.
The alleged settlement marks a significant chapter closure in one of Formula 1’s most high-profile controversies, though questions remain about what the future holds for one of the sport’s most prominent figures.
