Liam McNeilly wasted no time making an impression on his GB3 Championship debut at Donington Park. The 19-year-old Essex racer, competing for Fortec Motorsport, translated his rich single-seater pedigree into a podium finish during his first weekend of the 2025 GB3 Championship at Donington Park.
Reflecting on the result, McNeilly said, “Yeah, no, for sure. I mean, to jump in, you know, I think credit to Fortec, you know, they’ve given me a great car from when I got in on the past test. So, yeah, you know, really happy to get a podium and, yeah, we’ll see what we can do.”
His words captured both gratitude and quiet determination. Having tested with Fortec earlier in the season, McNeilly already felt at home within the team’s structured and competitive environment. The car’s balance and pace gave him the confidence to push from the outset, and his adaptability across different categories once again shone through.
Credit to Fortec’s preparation
McNeilly’s podium was no accident; it was the product of preparation, precision, and composure. After two productive tests at Brands Hatch and Donington Park, the Fortec engineers had tailored the car to suit his driving style. Their efforts paid off handsomely. McNeilly’s immediate competitiveness proved why Fortec continues to be one of Britain’s premier single-seater teams.
Moreover, his success reflected a hallmark of his career so far—seizing opportunities quickly. From winning on debut in both GB4 and USF Juniors to this latest podium, McNeilly has consistently delivered results under pressure. His latest performance reaffirmed that pattern and hinted at the potential for more in the near future.
Looking ahead to the next step
While McNeilly’s schedule currently does not include Monza, the door remains open. “I’m not down to do Monza at the moment, but, you know, we’ll see what happens,” he admitted.
Whether or not Monza beckons, McNeilly’s Donington debut has already made an impact. His ability to integrate swiftly into Fortec’s structure and secure a podium against seasoned GB3 competitors reinforces his growing reputation as one of Britain’s most promising young drivers. If opportunity knocks again, McNeilly has shown he’ll be ready to answer.
