The 2025 F2 has officially wrapped up with the conclusion of the third and final day of post-season testing at the Yas Marina Circuit. MP Motorsport’s Oliver Goethe set the tone early and showcased his speed as he dominated the first day. Goethe’s strong pace carried into the second day as he again topped the morning session, as Invicta Racing’s Rafael Câmara emerged as his closest challenger in the afternoon. With the last day of on-track running completed earlier today, here’s how the day unfolded.

Morning session: Dunne sets the pace

The final day of F2 post-season testing began with most teams opting to run the medium compounds. Early on, the timesheets changed rapidly as drivers cycled through the top spots. Early into the session, Rafael Villagómez set the pace with a 1:39.387. However, the VAR driver’s benchmark didn’t last long as Alex Dunne went to the top of the timings. Soon enough, Sebastian Montoya who was stopped at Turn 14 triggered the first and only red flag of the day.

As the session resumed, VAR chose to fit the super-soft tyres on both Villagómez and Nicolás Varrone’s cars. Once again, Villagómez set the first benchmark with a 1:37.715, before lowering it to a 1:37.502 on his next push-lap. As the first hour wrapped up, Villagómez managed to improve further to a 1:37.300, as Maini slotted in 0.169s behind. However, the gap to the Mexican driver quickly shrank as Nikola Tsolov, Mari Boya and Câmara each took turns in holding P2.

Eventually, Maini edged ahead of the Mexican driver by 0.137s, before Dunne reclaimed his spot in P1 with a 1:37.153 — a time set that remained unbeatable all day. As the morning session came to a close, focus shifted to race runs, pit stops and race start practice. The Irishman ended the session on top — with Maini, Villagómez, Dino Beganovic and Câmara rounding up the top five.

Afternoon session: Goethe’s dominance continues with Rodin duo trailing behind

Opening the afternoon session, Boya found his way to the top as he set the early benchmark with a 1:40.152. However, an impressively quick Goethe went fastest once again with a 1:38.274. During the session, most teams shifted their attention to long-runs as drivers completed their final race simulations of the year. Even so, a few improvements came through, with Montoya climbing to P2 ahead of Boya.

Trident’s Laurens van Hoepen soon slotted into P3, followed closely by Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, who managed to move up to P4 with just under an hour of the session remaining. In the final 20 minutes, Roman Bilinski made significant improvements as he moved up to P5 for DAMS Lucas Oil.

As five minutes remained on the clock, Rodin sent their drivers for several push-laps to end the session. Dunne got within 0.083s of Goethe’s time as Stenshorne slotted in behind the Irishman in P3. Both drivers got another shot at trying to beat Goethe’s time but were unable to improve. This left the MP driver to finish the afternoon session on top.
