Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) has confirmed the signing of Chinese driver Yuhao “Felix” Fu for the 2026 Formula Regional Middle East (FRME) Trophy. At just 17 years old, Fu embarks on a new chapter in his motorsport career, stepping up to the highly competitive regional series following an impressive run through various international Formula 4 championships.
A rising career in single-seaters
Initially, Fu’s journey in motorsport began in karting, but he made a swift transition to single-seaters in 2023, following just one year in karts. His debut came in the Formula 4 South East Asia Championship, where he competed in the final two rounds of the season. Despite being new to car racing, Fu scored 10 points over six races, with a best finish of sixth. Consequently, the experience provided him with a solid foundation in competitive motorsport, laying the groundwork for his future success.
The 2024 season saw Fu expand his racing programme, competing in multiple Formula 4 championships, including British F4, F4 UAE Championship, F4 Middle East Championship, and Formula Trophy UAE. As a result, his consistency across these series helped him sharpen his skills and prepare for the greater challenges that lay ahead.
One of Fu’s standout achievements came in the F4 Chinese Championship, where he secured his first-ever wins in single-seater racing. With two victories, two fastest laps, and five podiums, Fu finished fourth in the championship standings, marking a breakthrough season in his young career.
Stepping up to Formula Regional
In 2025, Felix Fu continued to build his experience by competing in both the F4 Middle East Championship and British Formula 4, further developing his skills on some of the most challenging racing circuits in the world. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, Fu’s focus now shifts to the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy, where he will race alongside Van Amersfoort Racing, a team renowned for developing young talent.
Felix is enthusiastic about his move to VAR and stepping up to the new Formula Regional machinery. Speaking about his new challenge, Fu said: “I am excited to be joining Van Amersfoort Racing for my debut in a regional series. The team demonstrates top performance at every level, and this will be a great help to preparing me for the main program in 2026. I am excited to get to work in Abu Dhabi and look forward to racing in the famous black and orange.”
VAR welcomes Felix Fu
For Van Amersfoort Racing, Fu’s addition represents an exciting opportunity to support the development of a driver with significant international experience. Given the team’s strong track record of nurturing young talent, this move is set to benefit both parties. Moreover, the team sees Fu’s transition from Formula 4 to the Formula Regional series as a crucial next step in his racing career, and they are eager to guide him through it.
Additionally, VAR has always been committed to helping drivers develop their skills and reach the next level, and Fu’s growth across multiple Formula 4 championships provides a solid foundation. In this context, his progression to the more demanding Formula Regional machinery will be a major milestone, and the team is ready to assist in this transition.
Brad Joyce, Team Principal of Van Amersfoort Racing, expressed his enthusiasm about Fu’s arrival. He said, “We are pleased to welcome Felix to Van Amersfoort Racing. Felix arrives with experience from a wide range of Formula 4 championships, which gives a good foundation as he joins the team in the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy. We look forward to supporting him as he adapts to the new car and accelerates his development with us.”
As Fu prepares for his debut with Van Amersfoort Racing, the team is eager to see how he adapts to the Formula Regional car, a machine designed to push young drivers to the next level of their careers. The 2026 season, beginning on January 16 at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, will provide Fu with a unique opportunity to develop alongside some of the most talented young drivers in the world.
