Cadillac F1 Team have unveiled their 2026 livery during the Super Bowl LX. The car, which has yet to be named, marks the American automaker’s debut in Formula 1. Their entry increases the constructors’ count to 11. Audi, meanwhile, will debut by way of the takeover of Sauber.

Cadillac marks the addition of a second American team on F1 grid

Cadillac will become the second American-owned F1 team, the first being the Haas F1 Team. The Gene Haas-owned outfit joined F1 a decade ago in 2016. Coincidentally, Cadillac is the first team to join the grid since.

The similarities between the two outfits do not end there. Just like Haas, Cadillac will also have multiple bases running the show. While Haas is headquartered in the US with bases in the UK and Italy, Cadillac has built its headquarters in Indianapolis, a PU facility run by General Motors in North Carolina, and a European base in the UK, close to Aston Martin’s facility at Silverstone.

How the different outfits will work as Cadillac F1 Team

The Cadillac F1 Team is backed by General Motors and TWG Motorsport. They aspire to be a complete works team with the ambition of delivering their first PU in 2029. Until then, Cadillac will design and produce their own chassis while the PUs will come from Ferrari. The Italian team will now manufacture for themselves, Haas and the newly inducted eleventh team.

Cadillac will work under the mentorship of former F1 champion Mario Andretti. The motor racing legend was in the hunt to float his own F1 team for the longest time. However, they rejected the bid, despite the FIA’s initial approval, raising concerns over competitiveness and value addition to the sport. Andretti also finds a place on the team’s board.

The experienced leadership

First impression suggests that Cadillac F1 Team’s management has left no stone unturned in hiring experienced personnel to run the show.

Right at the top in the team principal’s role is Graeme Lowdon, formerly sporting director at Marussia. In the CTO’s role is Nick Chester, who formerly worked as technical director at Renault. Another key Renault figure joining the ranks at Cadillac is the legendary Pat Symonds, donning the executive engineering consultant’s hat. Apart from his various stints in top roles at various F1 teams, Symonds has also served as the CTO of Formula 1.

Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez a strong driver partnership in 2026

Other than experienced personnel working behind the scenes, a new outfit also needs experience at the forefront, representing the team on the tracks. Doing that will be the combined 16-time Grand Prix winners, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez. Their race-winning pedigree aside, a combined total of 527 Grand Prix starts speaks volumes of their longevity in the sport.

The two drivers come with mental baggage, though. Bottas and Perez missed out on the 2025 season after being dropped by Sauber and Red Bull, respectively. While the Finn rejoined Mercedes as a reserve and test driver, the Mexican was a free agent.

Needless to say, both drivers have a point to prove, and Cadillac has given them the golden chance to do just that. In return, their feedback on the cars and the commercial value in the sport will help the team move forward.
